LHS Weekly Update
August 1, 2022
Principal's Welcome Letter
The start of the school year is a busy time and we are here to help you and your students. Whether your student is starting their high school journey as a 9th grader or you're counting down the days to graduation for your senior, the best way to ensure they are successful is to be involved:
- There are many activities, events, sports, and clubs students can join. Encourage your student to be a part of the groups.
- Support your student in attending the games, pep rallies, dances, and other events. They'll have fun and build memories. The entire high school experience covers 740 school days.
- Have your student take a challenging class. Explore new topics, earn college credit, and find their passions.
- Parents can contact us for volunteer opportunities, support parent organizations, and serve on the site council.
- Attend concerts, plays, and games with your students. Cheer on our Lions in every program.
If you have questions please feel free to contact me.
Go Lions!

6th Annual Lansing High School Football Cow Pie Bingo & Back to School Bash
The Lansing Lion Football Team will be hosting their 6th Annual Cow Pie Bingo Fundraising event at the Lansing High School located at 1412 147th Street. Tickets are available for purchase from your favorite LHS Football Player for $10. All proceeds will directly benefit the LHS Football Program.
This year the event will take place in-person, and we invite you to celebrate the new school year with our Back to School Bash. While we wait for the cows to “do their business” we will have food, vendors, and games (to include a dunk tank and bouncy houses). Come join the fun!

In Case You Missed It
Attention Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members: YOU Can Play an Integral Part in the Future of Lansing USD469!
Lansing USD469 will begin a Strategic Plan Process in September 2022 to outline what our district wants to achieve in the future and how we plan to get there. Community involvement is imperative to this process, so we are asking parents, students, staff, and community members to consider volunteering their time to participate in the Lansing USD469 Strategic Plan Process.
If interested, the time commitment will be two full days. The first day will be Monday, September 19, and the second day will be announced soon.
Email sharon.burns@usd469.net if you are available on these two dates and are interested in being considered for helping shape the future of Lansing USD469.
Meeting 1: Monday, September 19
- Participants will hear updates on “State of the School District” so all participants have similar background information to prepare them for the activities that will be completed through the process.
- Participants will move through facilitated stations throughout the day to provide feedback and ask questions. Stations include:
- Review of student performance data
- Review of other strategic plans to provide feedback and review examples
- Discussion of needs related to staffing, recruitment, and retention
- Discussion of student success and school improvement/accreditation initiatives
- Discussion of district/community communication efforts
- Feedback from these breakouts will be reviewed in order to determine key areas of focus or “Goal Areas.”
Meeting 2: TBD
- Participants will work in one of the determined focus area committees and will help develop action steps and measurable success criteria to ensure the district is taking clear action steps to achieve goal areas.
- Groups will share their recommended action steps and seek feedback from other groups
Cheerleaders at NCA Camp
Our Lansing High School cheerleading squad had an outstanding showing at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Camp on June 27 – 30th in Topeka, Kansas. Our team received the following accolades:
- Superior Ribbon Game Day Cheer
- Superior Ribbon Chant
- Excellent Ribbon Band Chant
- Technical Excellence Jumps
- Top Team Game Day Cheer (Small Varsity)
- 9 All American Nominees
- National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Squad Credentialing
- National Championship Bid
"The Cheerleaders have overcome any obstacles they faced and they work very well as a team," said LHS Head Cheer Coach, Mrs. Amber Bollin. "We are all excited for the season to begin."
Assistant cheerleading coach, Wykeya Taylor, was also incredibly proud of the girls' performances:
"The Cheerleaders have shown both growth and stamina! They have overcome obstacles and come to prove they are stronger together and building greatness as a team. This year will be the best one yet!"
Lansing Speech and Debate Team Successful at Nationals Tournament in Washington, DC
Our Lansing Speech and Debate Team competed in their second national tournament in Washington, DC on May 27 - 29. Our Lansing team helped propel the KCKNCFL diocese to 3rd place overall, and our DUO interpretation team of Niklas Schintgen and Mika Owens placed in the top 24 in the nation, which earned them quarterfinalist trophies!
This success comes after the two placed in octo-finals at the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) virtual tournament two weeks ago! Michael Im also placed in octo-finals at the NIETOC in extemporaneous speaking.
Our Lansing Speech and Debate Team has one more tournament left this season - the 2022 National Speech & Debate Tournament, to be held on June 12-17, 2022. Lansing USD469 will be cheering on our team as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete!
