Ms. Welker's Class

Holiday party

Our party (lunch) will be Thursday, December 17th from 11:30-12:30. Hopefully will be having Chick-fil-A nuggets for our lunch! Please visit the webpage below to sign up to bring an item.

Thank you so much for those that already signed up for party items. We are still in need of a few things in order to make our class party merry and bright! As of today, we do not have anyone signed up for the nuggets. If you would like to help provide the main dish (nuggets or something else such as pizza) please let me know ASAP! If not, we can ask students to bring a sack lunch for the party instead.

Students will be making stockings in class to use for the party. We are asking that each child brings wrapped candy or small "treasure item" toys for this activity. During the party, each student will pass out their items in the stockings for a fun surprise at the holiday party. We have 22 students in our class. Please do not include candy items that have nuts or peanut butter due to food allergies.

Here are some examples for stocking items: candy canes, lollipops, Hershey kisses, skittles, starburst, peppermints, pencils, stickers, mini erasers, little bubbles, etc.

Language Arts

In Reading this week we are reviewing making connections. Students will listen to different holiday stories as we continue our holidays around the world unit.

In writing, we are continuing to work on our stories. We are sharing them with a partner and giving each other feedback (what we like, what changes could be made). We will be editing and revising our stories to produce a completed book!

In Phonics, we will learn about nouns and how we make words plural by adding an "s" at the end.

Math

In Math, we will be looking at time to the half hour. We will also be reviewing math skills by doing some fun holiday themed math.

Science

In science, we are continuing to look at energy. W Students will be learning about the three main sources of energy; heat, light, and sound. We will also learn how we use these energy sources in our daily lives.

Social Studies

In social studies, we are learning about our Winter Customs unit. We will be talking about holidays that are celebrated around the world. This unit will take us through the next couple of weeks. Students are using the information about each country we discuss and creating a Holidays around the World Informational Book. Each country we visit, students are collecting passport stamps in their personal passport.
