Big picture

Welcome to New and Returning St. Luke Families!

As the summer holidays come to a close an exciting school year is about to begin for our St. Luke School Community! Mrs. Shakeshaft and I are truly looking forward to an amazing year with all of you.

Many of you may be wondering what this new school will look like. I have no doubt we all want and will all do the very best to ensure that we maintain the health and safety of our school community. As students begin to journey back through the halls the important thing that they should remember is that they all are a very valuable part of what makes St. Luke such a great place to learn.

This week our SMORE communication will focus on the EICS Re-Entry Guidelines with the St.Luke Protocols and the first week of school.

As we come together again as a school community, we pray for God’s grace and protection on all who enter our school. I look forward to the start of a wonderful new school year. Please feel free to contact the school at 780-922-5920 if you require more information.

Blessings,

Mrs. Cathy Hinger

Principal

Re-Entry Protocols for St. Luke

At St. Luke, we will continue many of our St. Luke protocols for COVID-19. These protocols follow many of the guidelines that have been set in place by the EICS School Plan that is linked here for the safety and security of our St. Luke community.

Daily Screening: following the Alberta Health Daily Checklist. If a student is exhibiting symptoms or develops symptoms while at school. parents/guardians will be notified and will be asked to pick up their child.

Hand Hygiene:

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be put at each entrances/exits for student and staff use for entering the building at the beginning, recess, and end of the day. As well, stations will be set-up outside of all classrooms and learning areas throughout the school.

Masks:

Pre-K to Grade 3 Students and Staff

  • Masks are strongly recommended when physical distancing is not possible and in common areas (hallways, bathrooms, foyers, lunch rooms) where classroom cohorts are often intermingled.

  • Masks are mandatory on the school bus, to and from school and to any school sanctioned event.

Grades 4-12 Students and Staff

  • Masks are strongly recommended in all common areas (hallways, bathrooms, foyers, lunch rooms)

  • Masks remain strongly recommended during class time when physical distancing is not possible.

  • Masks are mandatory on the school bus, to and from school and to any school sanctioned event. When outside, masks are not necessary, but we encourage all

Visitors:

  • We look forward to having parents in our building but at this time parents will only be allowed into the school if they have an appointment scheduled with staff.

  • Any visitors to the school must screen for any signs and symptoms of Covid-19 and are required to wear a mask.

COVID protocols will be adjusted during the school year as we respond to what is happening within the community.

First Day of School

On the First day of school students will be directed to a sign marked with their grade outside on the front lawn of the school. Teachers will be at this location to meet and greet students in their designated spots at 8:15am. Students coming off the bus will also be directed to these marked spots. We ask that parents wait until the busses have departed to drop off students.

Your child will be entering the school through their designated doors as directed by their teacher.

Please bring your child’s labeled school supplies, lunch, a filled and labeled water bottle on their first day.

Masks are strongly recommended for all students and staff. We recommend that you send two masks per day.

Your child will be exciting again through their designated doors at the end of the day. Students will be called starting at the bell at 3:00pm according to their bus numbers. After the busses have departed the students being pick-up will be dismissed. Parents/guardians are to wait at the designated area outside for students and will not be permitted into the building.

Staggered Entry Dates

We will begin our year with a staggered entry. Only half of our students will be attending on Wednesday and the other half on Thursday. This allows teachers a chance to get to know their students and organize them before the whole class is together.

All students in Grade 1- 8 with their last names beginning from A to K will be attending the first day of school on Wednesday September 1.

Students with the last names beginning with the letters L to Z will attend on Thursday, September 2.

The first full day back to school for all students is Friday September 3.

**Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students will also have a staggered entry on Thursday September 2 and Friday September 3. Staff will contact students as to the day they will be attending.
