A Note from Mr. Nakano
I am looking forward to sharing your student's successes and setting goals for the year. Just a reminder that your child should be in attendance, as they will be leading the conference through a Google Slides presentation that they created.
I will be out for a meeting on Tuesday, but will be back at school in time for conferences in the afternoon.

Language Arts
This week we will delve deeply into fact vs. opinion. What is the difference between the two and how can an author use both of them to communicate their ideas? Your scholars will use these concepts for their opinion writing in the following weeks.
Math
We will continue to take apart and explore numbers into the thousands. Students will also be introduced to the different parts of a clock and will begin to review telling time to the hour.
Science
Now that our students are experts on the different landforms, we want them to know HOW these landforms are made! This week we will look closely at slow changes in the Earth (erosion and weathering), as well as fast changes (volcanoes and earthquakes)!
Flipgrid Read Aloud
If you are interested in recording a video, please visit flipgrid.com and enter the code dlwytn. The password is Eastwood. Flipgrid allows you to record a video that is 5 minutes long. If your story still isn't finished, you can reply to your original post or post two separate videos and continue reading! This will be available all year long for you to contribute to! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

October STEAM Challenges
We continued our pumpkin themed STEAM activities this week by making pumpkin volcanoes. Check out this awesome slow-mo video of one erupting. This is a super easy activity to replicate at home. Your third graders are already talking about some modifications they've thought of to change the color, intensity, and texture of the eruption.
