February 2017 Clerkship Redesign Newsletter
We are moving ahead with planning, organization and recruitment for the clerkship redesign. We have been very busy in the past month, please see our updates below. Only 96 more days until the 2017-18 school year starts!
Please always feel free to contact me or Serena Sherrell directly if you have ideas, questions or concerns about the transition process. Our contact information is below.

We are planning to do site visits in February and March. An all site directors meeting is tentatively planned for early April.
Of note, we are adding sites to our clerkship for medical students in RPAP who are based in Duluth as well as developing new relationships in the Twin Cities. More to come.

Lecture Series – Wed. Afternoons, 1:30-5:30pm
Here’s a list of our lectures with current Lecture Champions. We are very fortunate to have such talented and accomplished staff join our teaching series. Thank you to all that have volunteered.
We are looking for additional Lecturers
Maintaining our lecture series for 12 periods will take a combined effort, and we would appreciate anyone willing to facilitate one or more of the lectures during the school year. Please let us know of any interest you or your colleagues may have in helping this part of the clerkship. For more information, please contact either Serena or me by email or phone.
Clerkship BlackBag Site
The University of MN’s BlackBag site (blackbag.umn.edu) is the learning management portal that all medical students use to obtain information about their clerkship, assignments, evaluations and grading. For the ADPY 7500 Psychiatry site page, students are able to view important site specific information and obtain guides for paper/case report writing, lecture handouts and slides, and many other links to clerkship material. Many of our changes with the transition will be reflected in our Psychiatry BlackBag site, so please feel free to sign in with your UMN user ID and password and check out our site as it is changing.
Psychiatry Paper changing to Case Report
We are gathering ideas that could assist medical students with writing their case report, which will be replacing the psychiatry paper. Student will be able to view a guide and case report example on BlackBag, as well as how the case report will be graded. We are inviting students to pursue publication of their work and will have links on BlackBag to help with submissions. Please let me know if you or any of your staff that are interested in mentoring a student with their case report, especially in assisting with publication.
Thank you for your work on this transition!
Best,
Susan
