Cowpoke Chronicles
October 2022 - Volume 1
Welcome from Mrs. Sweeney!
Hi Cowpokes!
I think we can say fall is officially here at Pinkerton! It has been nice having some "cooler" weather these last few days! As we head into October, I am excited for some fun fall brings! I hope to bring some of the old traditions back but also start some new ones!
Parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner! I hope that you all have the opportunity to visit with your classroom teachers. These meetings are an excellent time for us to share about your child's strengths and different areas that we will continue to focus on throughout the year ahead.
We have a long weekend coming up as well that I am sure will allow both students and teachers an opportunity to relax and recharge as we come back to a new quarter! The first report cards of the year will go home through an email soon after.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

It was wonderful seeing all the parents, grandparents and special friends visiting for lunch and the book fair. I am so happy we are returning to our normal traditions and fun activities!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
Every October, schools and organizations across the country join the STOMP Out Bullying™ campaign. This campaign encourages schools and communities to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying by increasing awareness of all forms of bullying and the impact that bullying has on people of all ages. At Pinkerton, we work diligently to educate our learners about bullying and its effects. In addition, kindness, acceptance, and inclusion are promoted in everything we do. GLOBAL CITIZEN AWARDS
It is almost time to choose our first Global Citizens! At the end of each nine weeks, two learners from each classroom are chosen for modeling the IB profile, demonstrating kindness and respect towards others and for behavior that helps create a better and more peaceful world. In most of the classes, the teacher chooses their Global Citizens. In some of the upper grades, the learners nominate and vote on their citizens. The learners chosen for this honor are celebrated by having a write-up, along with their picture on the bulletin board in the front hallway. In addition, parents are invited to attend a short reception before school, where Mrs. Sweeney congratulates them and presents them with an IB Global Citizen certificate. They are also recognized at the spirit assembly at the end of each nine weeks. It is a wonderful honor!
Please let me know if I can help you in any way. My email is kkirkley@coppellisd.com.
Happy Fall!
Kathy
