Friday Focus
Anyone been out golfing yet this year?
"What I Love About MMS"
I am always curious what the answer to this question would be if I asked staff and students, so I started. You will find a box in the lounge with the question on it along with scratch paper and pens. Feel free to write down what you love about MMS and stick it in the box. Sometime next week, I will put a new question on it. Keep your eyes peeled! Some of the answer so far are:
- "All of the amazing people I get to work with. Hard days are made better by their humor and friendship."
- "It's a place to fulfill my calling."
- "I love that we start each day with the pledge!"
- "I love all of the support I get from my principal and vice principal"
- "The Kids, without a doubt!"
Junkbots
Students in Mrs. Parsons' science class built functional robots out of junk. They were given batteries and motors, but thats it. This student is extremely creative and was loving the project!
Recruiting Knights!
Mrs. Hearnen is putting together some sort of Middle-Ages army I think. Here is one of her students reading the requirements for being a Knight.
What a comeback!
A few weeks ago I made the mistake of asking the questions "What will the kid do when he is done with math?" the immediate response was "One is never done with what can be learned in math!" Great answer. I thought a lot about that answer!
Springtime Challenge!
This week, I made a number of phone calls home and when the parents answer the phone and realize it's me, the reaction is the same. You can about imagine, but really, whose fault is that? You're right, it's mine! So what do I do? I challenged myself to make at least three positive phone calls per week to offset the parental reaction. So far, they are pleasantly surprised when I call to tell them about the good things their child has done. This is by no means an epiphany in education, I know.
I know that all of you do this way more than I do; you cc me on them! My challenge to you is to make three additional calls, texts, or emails to let parents know something positive about their child! It makes a world of difference to them.
Science gets slimy!
I have heard of turtle races, but earthworm races? Our 7th graders were having a blast with this.
Did you know!?
Bane Briggs won 10th (out of 80) place at the state competition for the National Geography Bee! Way to go, Bane! We can't wait to see what you can do next year.
What is capable?
The only directions the students received: Make something that does something. We have on our hands a marketable prototype!
I couldn't resist!
