A Letter from the 2018 FPA DFW President

January 2018

Happy New Year!

I am excited and honored to serve as the 2018 FPA of Dallas/Fort Worth president! The FPA Board of Directors has spent the past several months mapping out a plan for the coming year, striving to expand and enhance the value this chapter brings to our members. Past chapter leaders have worked hard to build a strong foundation for our chapter, and through their efforts, we have become one of the strongest chapters within the FPA. The goal for this year is to continue to innovate and evolve so that we remain a leader and mentor to other chapters within the FPA and a valuable resource to our chapter members.

Last year was an exciting year for Dallas/Fort Worth. The chapter created a dedicated board position for NexGen, grew our one-day symposium into a full-on two-day conference, and started a focus on career development outside of just holding an FPA Career Day. Public Relations, in conjunction with the Dallas Morning News, grew the financial planning hotline “Ask a CFP®” to include NBC5, Al Dia, and Telemundo. Pro Bono continued to serve our community through Junior Achievement and new partnerships with organizations such as the Gatehouse and Frisco Family Services. And some of our members joined our Government Relations Director in Austin this year for a Day at the Capital to make sure Financial Planning continues to have a presence in front of those elected officials who can help us make a difference.

Last year’s President, Brandon Ratzlaff, placed a focus on three areas for the chapter; (1) Member Engagement (2) Education and (3) Leadership Pipelines. I plan to pick up where we left off on these efforts in 2018, emphasizing value and benefits to the members to help increase engagement. Working even harder to bring top quality education opportunities and speakers to members, and encouraging members to get involved in our work so that the strong leadership we have had in the past continues for years to come. And along the way, let’s not forget to have some fun and continue to network with our fellow members through Ballpark 2018, various Happy Hours, Chapter Meetings, NexGen, and the many more events we have planned! The community we have within the DFW FPA is one of the many reasons we thrive as a chapter.

As we work to build out these three areas further, we ask that you share your ideas with us. This chapter is here for its members, and should continuously evolve so that it is an organization you are proud to be a part of. But we cannot do that without your input and involvement. The best ideas often come from you, so please share them with us. And if you are inclined to invest even more, please look to join one of our many committees!

A new year has arrived, and the possibilities are endless. Wishing you a Great, Prosperous, Blissful, Healthy, Bright, Delightful, Energetic and Extremely Happy 2018!

All my best,

Dusty Wallace, J.D., CFP®
FPA Dallas/Fort Worth President

The Wealth Advisor, the voice of the financial advisor community, has announced Wealth Advisors Trust as one of their top picks for advisor-friendly trust companies for 2018.

As the financial world lurches up and down, progress continues in the trust industry. With vision and an advisor focus, independent trust companies continue to unseat the traditional trust company.

Let’s face it, the trust industry does not have any interesting features. Not so long ago the traditional trust industry had no competition; they could deliver client service as they saw fit. However, we recognize that trust service requires a steady hand, attention to detail and a focus on consistency. Over the last decade, independent trust companies solved two problems: 1) client service; and 2) not competing against financial advisors. This gave the rise to advisor-friendly trust companies such as Wealth Advisors Trust.

Financial advisors realize a growing trend with estate attorney’s – trust assets remain in trust for a lifetime. Picking a trustee, traditionally, does not normally occur with financial advisors. With the advisor-friendly structure, using a corporate trustee such as Wealth Advisors Trust makes the process easy. Read more....
