Message from the Principal
Happy Wednesday BIS families,
Staff Appreciation Week: Next week (May 2-6) is National Teacher Appreciation Week, a very special week to recognize the hard work and resilience of our educators. Districtwide we will be finding small ways to extend an additional thank you to our staff for their perseverance and continued dedication to Biddeford students. However, educators do what they do every day because of their commitment to students and the impact they are able to make. Their experiences with kids and families are what drives their passion for education and help make our communities a better place to be.
Please join us in honoring our teachers and staff by participating in the small but meaningful events below. We are encouraging our students and families to write simple notes of appreciation for any teachers and staff members throughout the week that they appreciate!
Tuesday, May 3 - Homemade Card Day
Please have your child bring a homemade card for their teacher to express their appreciation. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring additional cards for teachers outside of their classroom.
Thursday, May 5 - Letters of Gratitude
Please have your child write a short letter of gratitude for a staff member they feel has made a big impact on their experience at BIS. There are many letter templates available online but we will also have plenty available on a table in front of the office next week for students to bring home and complete if that is helpful for them!
College and Career Week is off to a great start! Our students have been learning fun facts about our staff's first jobs and hearing about the many career paths they can pursue. On Monday, our staff wore college sweatshirts and talked about their own college experiences and how they became educators. To wrap up the week, over 25 volunteers will be teaching Junior Achievement programs, Our City and Our Region unit at Biddeford Intermediate School. By delivering hands-on and interactive lessons, volunteers encourage students to open their eyes to opportunities like being an entrepreneur, preparing for the workforce, solving problems, and being a leader. Junior Achievement volunteer-led programming fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills, and uses experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential.

In addition, pull out interventions in both Literacy and Math will offer opportunities for students just below grade level to improve upon these skills.
