New GCSD Attendance Policy - Effective 1/11
On January 11 (and moving into Second Semester), the district will implement a revised attendance policy for virtual and remote learning. When students are learning asynchronously, they will have 2 days to complete the assignments to be marked present for the day. If the student does not complete the assigned work for the day during the two-day window, they will be given an unexcused absence. It is at the discretion of the teacher to accept the work for a grade, but the attendance will not change. If you have any questions, please contact the school.
For example, if a student in track A attends both days in person and completes all work while remote for the week, they would be marked present for Monday and Tuesday and virtually present for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please see the table below regarding due dates of assignment to receive attendance credit.

VIRTUAL/REMOTE SCHEDULE
NOTE: Students are REMOTE this week (1/4 to 1/8) and should NOT report to school for classes this week. All courses will be online.
Wednesday: Asynchronous: Students log-in and work independently on their work for each class. No Meet/Zoom sessions. Teachers available to discuss work/grades.

Mental Awareness Club
We believe mental health matters! Do you? If so, join WHS’s Mental Health Awareness Club and follow us on Instagram @whsmentalhealth!! Join Mr. Bo’s and Mrs. Wheeler’s Google Classroom using code z2ekson
Send Mr. Bo or Mrs. Wheeler a message through Google Classroom or come by their offices to let them know you are interested in joining the club! We are currently planning activities for Bullying Prevention Month in October and need your help! Our Mental Health Awareness Club's mission is to:
- Empower students to break the negative stigma of mental health and ask for help if they need it.
- Educate others about mental health awareness, mental illness warning signs, and suicide prevention
- Encourage students to engage in healthy self-care and make social connections
Spread Smiles!!!
Please add to our Spread Smiles Board at the back of the cafeteria near the computer lab! October is Bullying Prevention Month. To combat hurtful words and actions, let’s encourage kind ones! Use a chalk pen to write on the blackboard or add a sticky note to the bulletin board to share kind words and positive affirmations! Feeling down or know someone who needs a pick-me-up? Take a sticky note with you or give one to a student or teacher!

Cart to Class: Lowes Foods
Each year, as part of our Community Outreach, it's been my great pleasure to participate with our local schools in the Cart 2 Class program. I want our schools to get their fair share of the $250,000 Lowes has earmarked for the schools. But parents and those who support the school must first link their Lowes Foods Rewards Card to the schools of their choice to make that happen. Rewards are based on the amount of Private Label items purchased. Best of all, it costs nothing!
