Who Discovered America?
By Kayla Hammond
Chief Howling Wind
I believe that Chief Howling Wind and his Indians were the people to first appear on America. Chief Howling Wind arrived in America 10,000 - 50,000 years ago. Long before any other explorer claims to have arrived. Chief also states that he was there watching on the shores of America while the other explorers and groups arrived. Wind also claims that he was the first to reside in America. But, Indians didn't write history.
Prince Madoc of Wales
I do not believe that Prince Madoc of Wales should get credit for discovering America. Once Prince Madoc of Wales arrived in America him and his men were slaughtered by a different tribe, which means some group had to have already been there before the Prince and his men. Yes Prince Madoc of Wales did stay on the New World for a matter of days but, his men were slaughtered by a tribe that had obviously already made home and had the weapons to do so.
Hoi-Shin
I do not believe that Hoi-Shin deserves credit for discovering America because he originally went to America to spread his culture among Americas people. So in order for him to want to spread his culture he had to have know there was people there to teach his culture too. Yes Hoi-Shin did arrive earlier than most discovers, but the Native Americans were there first.
Leif Ericsson
I do not believe the Leif Erickson deserves credit for discovering America because he also arrived after the Native Americans. That being said he also did not go onto his voyage until after Bjarni Herfulsson had come back from his voyage and told Leif about it. Yes Leif did go on the voyage and saw things in the New World, but he wouldn't have known about America without the help of Bjarni first.

Maybe Columbus?
Yes, I think we all know that the Native Americans were the first to arrive in the New World. But, it depends what your asking in order to truly know who to give credit too. Native Americans did live there first, but once Columbus came to the New World civilization began and without this civilization would we be here today? Many people believe Columbus should not get credit because of the murdering of the natives but when you think about it, Columbus himself was not the one to kill them. Columbus' men killed the natives.
