End of Year Celebrations!
It has been truly an amazing year at Pleasant Street School!
It was our first year of implementing the Massachusetts educator evaluation system which better articulates standards, indicators, and elements of effective instructional practice and leadership at all levels with student achievement being at the center of this system. Within the district elementary program our teachers developed a multi-year literacy leadership and assessment plan as we move forward in implementing Readers Workshop and a balanced approach to literacy instruction. We have also worked hard on shifting our approach in teaching math to better align with the Common Core and to increase children's mathematical thinking and conceptual foundations in number sense and problem solving. In the coming year we will continue our curriculum development efforts as model units of study, essential questions, required resources, and assessment methods are mapped out on Atlas Rubicon, a web-based program, that will insure greater consistency horizontally and vertically across all schools in the district. Additionally, we have made a concerted efforts to engage parents, families, and community members to not only participate in the learning experience of their children but to partner with us in maximizing their development. The strength and the vitalization of our community rests upon a quality educational program. We are incredibly pleased the townspeople have committed to building a new elementary school which will greatly enhance our efforts to provide the best possible education for the children of the future with modern instructional tools, facilities, and technology.
It has been an incredibly busy last two weeks of school with two concerts, the grades 1,3,and 4 field trips, the Annie play, preschool end of the year ceremonies, fourth grade step up, volunteer appreciation breakfast, field day, the kindergarten nursery rhymes program, and our end of the year all school meeting. Phew!! This newsletter is part one of a two part series that showcases moments from these events and celebrations.
Thank you for sharing your children with us who have inspired us to be the best educators we can be.
Have a great summer!
