What started the Civil Rights Movement?

In the 1960's African Americans were in the mix of not having equal rights as the common white male or female. The African Americans main goal was to fight for these rights they deserved. The NAACP (National Association of the Advancement of Colored People) formed to fight for these rights. Thus starting the Civil rights Movement!

What exactly was the Civil Rights Movement? How was the education effected?

The Civil Rights movement was a "freedom struggle" for African Americans to gain equality in the community. The education of blacks in the community was very slim education was cut short for these people. If education was allowed the black children would be separated and "learn" in bad conditions.

Death Penalty in the 1960's

In 1970 thirty-nine states allowed the death penalty for some crimes. Six states had abolished the death penalty in the 1960s. About 40 percent of the people who were asked in public surveys said that the death penalty should be abolished. During the 1960s about forty people per year were sentenced to death, but only a few were executed. Death sentence was finally abolished on January 17, 1977.
