Clothes Closet Needs
We have a clothes closet at Sevier for students to use if they need to change clothes or if they are in need of clothes. We encourage students to keep what we give them when they come to the clothes closet. We are in desperate need of boys shoes, especially size 10 and up.
We also need new girls' underwear (we go through a lot), girls leggings (small and medium sizes), boys shorts-all sizes. If you are ever cleaning out your closets and need somehwere to take the old clothes, please think of us! We appreciate and rely on donations!
Thank you!
Kingsport City Schools Accepting Zoning and Tuition Applications for 2020-2021 School Year
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools will begin accepting Zoning and Tuition Applications for students in grades K–12 for the 2020-2021 school year beginning Sunday, March 1, 2020.
Parents who would like to request their child attend a different city school instead of one for which their child is zoned, must apply for a zoning exception. Parents of students who are not legal residents of the City of Kingsport must submit a tuition application to attend Kingsport City Schools. Parents or legal guardians must apply annually for their child’s tuition and zoning status, even if they attended Kingsport City Schools during the preceding school year.
Applications can be found here: Zoning and Tuition link 2020-21
The following are excerpts from the Kingsport Board of Education’s policies and procedures for zoning and tuition:
- Parents or legal guardians must apply annually for their child’s tuition and zoning status.
- Students who are not legal residents of the City of Kingsport shall pay tuition charges as approved annually by the Board of Education.
- Failure to pay tuition will disqualify a student’s application for the next year.
- Tuition students are accepted and zoning exceptions are granted only if current enrollment permits.
- The system does not provide bus transportation for tuition or zoning exception students, except in specific circumstances.
- Documented medical reasons
- Child care availability
- An expected move to a different zone
- Specialized school programs
- A fifth or an eighth grade student with a previous zoning exception
- Documented justifications related to the child’s specific educational experience
- Zoning and tuition for Kingsport City Schools employees and retirees, as well as City of Kingsport employees
- Zoning exception reapplications
- Siblings of currently enrolled out-of-zone students
- New zoning exception applications
- Tuition reapplications
- Siblings of currently enrolled tuition students
- New tuition applications for out-of-district residents
To find out the school for which your child is zoned, please refer to the online School Zones and Street Directory listed under the “School Zones and Street Directory” link under “Parents” at k12k.com, or call the KCS Administrative Support Center at (423) 378.2100.

Sequoyah Scribe Recognized AGAIN!
The Tennessee High School Press Association has just announced finalists for its annual media contest. Sevier Middle is usually the only middle school that competes alongside Tennessee's high schools.
I am proud to announce that several Sevier students are finalists in this year's competition! Although I have not been informed in which categories their work will be honored (writing, photography, layout, etc.), I have received the student names. They are:
Audrey Edwards (7)
Meredith Mooney (8) - Finalist in two categories
Ella Miller (Freshman, for work published in the first half of 2019)
Carlee Cradic (6)
Katie Little (Freshman, for work published in the first half of 2019)
Please congratulate these students on a job well done! We will find out about their precise placement on April 16, 2020.
Thanks, as always, for your support of our student journalists!
