Academic Technology
Your Monday moment of technology learning and zen!
Edtech Tool of the Week! PlayPostit
This week - how to use the individual space (at home) and front-load content and ideas for use in the group space (your classroom) through flipped learning. Playpostit gives you the opportunity to curate video content from TeacherTube, YouTube and other platforms and chunk it into watchable sections and add questions as the video rolls to check for student understanding and engagement. There are a huge number of pre-made "bulbs" that other teachers have shared for free (check out this one on atoms - you will need to sign in with your school Google account) - and you can create your own and use. Each one has an embed code that will drop straight into mySTEDS. The perfect way to get your feet wet in the blended learning environment! Just ask if you want to have a go at creating your own and we can set up a time to collaborate!
It's a big week as we kick off our Design Thinking and 3D Printing Projects!
3rd Grade Design Thinking!
5th Grade Design Thinking and 3D Printing for Kenya with MakerBot
ADECS Design Thinking with CraftBot
Technology walkthroughs and ISTE Standards for Educators
This year, we are reflecting on the International Standards for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Educators as we do our walkthroughs. Please let Amber or myself know if there is any particular lesson that you would like us to "walkthrough" and either one of us will try to schedule it in.
This is also a good time to discuss your technology for learning goals and things that you might like to try in the classroom. Please loop in the Academic Technology Department on these ideas before you deploy. There are many things that we as a school need to keep straight before using some technologies - FERPA, COPPA and for our EU students, GDPR compliance. Let us do the boring legwork and research on that!
Google Certified Educator PD!
This week: Google Docs.
We all know Google Docs! However, this week, we will deep dive into how to make docs REALLY work for you and how to pull in all sorts of interactive activities to make them into Hyperdocs. Make your own interactive workbooks for your students and update them annually! Come along at 3.45pm on Tuesday and we will get down with Docs.
It's not too late to join Google Certified Educator Level 1 (Fundamentals) and Level 2 (Advanced) start on DECS at 3.45pm on Tuesdays. Click here to learn more
The face-to-face meetings are not mandatory - they are there for you to know that there is always a time to come and get help if you are struggling with an aspect of the program. Let Kelly, Amber or myself know if this is part of your professional goals this year - we are here to be your cheerleaders and support!
If you are joining us this year (either for renewal of certification or for the first time), please fill out the Google Form by clicking here.
