Sunday Shakedown
Weekly Memo for Washington Elementary
Principal Post
Research has shown that grateful people are happier and healthier. Despite our individual circumstances, we can strive to seek out those little successes and celebrate those small victories like a beautiful sunrise as you are driving to work, the sincerity of a child's smile, the kind words of a colleague, and the list could on and on! Take time this week to notice and acknowledge what is right in your world. A friend introduced me to an app called 3 Good Things. Download it and it will prompt you to reflect upon and record three good things that happened that day. It's a great accountability tool to help us keep our energy and attention focused on what is right and less on what is wrong. Developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the simplest ways we can improve our lives. The team we have here at GWES at the top of the list of things for which I am grateful!

FYI and Reminders:
- Thank you for following our expectations for morning meetings and the topics established for each day. I noticed some of you starting on Zones of Regulations on Friday and I know we only have one book per team, so just wanted to share a link in case you want to watch some webinars: http://www.zonesofregulation.com/learn-more-about-the-zones.html
- We will rely on Google calendar this year as the primary reminder of dates and meetings. Please add "George Washington Calendar" to your calendars and it will populate into your personal calendar. You can also add an app on your phone. Faculty meetings upcoming are August 23 (joint with other schools for the purpose of sharing updates to evaluation rubrics) and then the second and fourth Mondays after that in August. A few months only have one meeting due to holidays or breaks. In addition, the professional learning calendar can be added that way as well, and toggled on and off for viewing.
- Please remember that fundraising sites like "Go fund Me" ,"Donor's Choose" and "Fundly" are not allowed in KCS. No KCS employee raising money for KCS, your classroom, or school events can use these sights to raise funds. Secondly, if you are applying for any kind of grant you must follow KCS procedures. This means that you complete an Intent To Apply form. This form starts the process with the district to "register" your fundraiser and clarifies any district wide concerns with a particular grant or grant funding. You may not apply for a grant unless this form is completed accurately, returned to ASC, and gets Board approval. Amy Doran (378-2174 ) can answer any follow up questions.
- Please use the following Google form to submit your idea for a club you would like to sponsor. I believe the leadership team agreed that most teams preferred Friday as the club day, again at 8:30-9:10. Start day to be determined.
- You will recall from med training that we need to teach our students what to do in a medical emergency...find the nearest adult and report what you see. When you have completed this (by August 30) fill out the following form:
