Principal's Message
Hello Families of Violet students,
The start of the school year has been an awesome transition. For some students, it’s a little harder to get back into the swing of school after a summer break. However, we have been in school for fifteen days and all of our students are in the learning groove once again!
As a community of learners, we are working to ensure that all scholars, teachers, and staff this year embrace a growth mindset and a great desire for EXCELLENCE. We believe that just as it is important to teach reading and math skills, it is equally important to teach our children about mindset. Our goal is to develop learners who persevere in their pursuit of learning and goal attainment. It is our desire to provide scholars with the tools they will need to be successful in learning as well as in the community. We look forward to partnering with you in this effort!
Please know that your child’s academic learning and social-emotional growth is of utmost importance to us here at Violet. We recognize that as parents, you play an important role in your child’s education. Therefore, we invite you to take an active role in your scholar’s learning experience by:
Collaborating with your child’s teacher(s) in order to establish a healthy and successful relationship
Maintain open communication to ensure a successful partnership throughout the year
Commit to increasing your parental engagement and involvement for the 2019-2020 school year through opportunities like PTO.
There will be a variety of events to watch out for this month, including the 4th grade GOOD program, picture day, and the PTO Flower Sale. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and connect to what’s happening around the building.
We will continue our mission to Be Kind, Be Helpful, and to Be Caring at Violet ES. Please continue to remind students about ways that they can display these characteristics in and out of school. We will also continue to celebrate students in many ways, such as birthday shoutouts, Student of the Month, Super Violet Award, etc. We can never celebrate enough when it comes to our students.

News from the Counselor
1. SMALL GROUP COUNSELING
Throughout the course of the school year, Mrs. Lowe will hold a number of small group counseling sessions. These groups are optional and designed for students who need additional social and/or emotional support outside of the classroom. The groups will meet either during your student’s lunch or at another time that is determined by the counselor and classroom teacher. Groups meet once a week for a period of 6 to 8 weeks, with sessions lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Please note that groups may be formed throughout the year as staff and/or parents identify needs for support.
If you feel your child could benefit from a group please complete the Small Group Counseling Survey. Mrs. Lowe will do her best to place all students, however, based on circumstances, this may not be possible. If your student is not placed in a group this year, they will be at the top of the list for next school year. If your student is placed in a group this year, you will be notified with additional details. Please contact Mrs. Lowe with any questions at lisa_lowe@plsd.us
Here is the link to the survey: (https://forms.gle/9kNfD3ZYLCqUqi3L8)

Please read the attached SEL Fall Survey Letter which was sent home with your student last week. Please note that the Panorama survey will be given to students the week of September 23rd. Please contact Mrs. Lowe with any questions.
