FAITH DEVELOPMENT DAY - NO SCHOOL REMINDER
A reminder that on Monday, October 18th, all staff of Edmonton Catholic Schools will attend the annual Faith Development Day. There is NO SCHOOL for all ECSD students on that day.
CONNECTING LITERACY and WRITING TO LEARNING
Our students are working hard to express and expand their learning in all subject areas and to connect it to literacy. It is wonderful to be able to see the students at all levels of learning continue to explore how literature is a part of everything they do!
Gr1 - Fox and the Falling Leaves
Gr 1 listened to the adventures of Fox and then represented the story in drawings, retelling what they remembered.
Jr High Science Genetics Creature Creations
Junior High students created their own creatures after learning about genetics in Science class, writing about the traits of their newly created creatures.
What Matters - by Allison Hughes Grade 4
Connecting to our School Theme Book "What Matters", Gr 4 students created posters of encouraging words to hang around the school, reminding others that they matter and that the things they love matter.
VIRTUAL SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
Our Grade 4 students lead our October School Wide Assembly this week virtually where they told the students in the school of the many things they found out about what kids liked in September and were looking forward to in October. They spent time interviewing students around the building to get their information to share. Gr 4 students also chose and prepared a social justice monthly project as well. For the month of October, they are sharing their own form of social justice....supporting and encouraging the mental health of the students in our building. During the month of October, the grade 4 students also prepared their own prayers and shared them to the entire school on Morning Broadcast.
STUDENT VIDEO BROADCAST & MULTIMEDIA AND MARKETING OPTION
Jr High Multi-Media and Marketing students have taken our student broadcast to a new level! Students sit behind the 'anchor' desk at the green screen, sharing prayer, news and weather for our school. Ms. Turko's Multimedia class has enjoyed their online presentations from media personalities this month. They met with Phil Darlington from Global Edmonton and Lisa Evans and Chris Myers from Play 107 FM.
In the Broadcast Room
Students share their prayers, news and other events in the broadcast room against a green screen.
On the Big Screen
When looking at the projected image, students in the school see a professional looking anchor desk!
107PLAY FM Radio Session
Students in Multi-Media and Marketing learning from Media personalities virtually.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Individual Student School Photos will be taken on Tuesday, October 19th. Edge Photographers will be at our building all day taking pictures of our students. We anticipate families receiving their digital proofs and order forms approximately 1 week after.
TRACKING YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING PROGRESS
In Edmonton Catholic Schools, we report to parents and students on an ongoing basis. Gone are the days when parents and students would have to wait for a report card to come out just three times a year. We use a gradebook program that integrates with PowerSchool, called PowerTeacher Pro, into which teachers input assessment information as it happens. Parents and students are encouraged to check PowerSchool “Grades and Attendance” regularly to keep up to-date on student progress. If your child is on an individualized program plan, please check the IPP for updates regarding student progress.
