California is actively working to vaccinate school staff members across the entire state. Over the past few weeks, Team Alta Vista has been getting our own #FauchieOuchies. Unfortunately, as people begin to get their second vaccination, there is an increased risk of side effects in some people. Staff with limited symptoms, such as fatigue or a headache, can return to work. If an individual has symptoms that may be caused by the vaccine, such as fever or chills, they have been directed to remain at home. If the symptoms are resolved after 48 hours, they may return to campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, your child's teacher will be letting you know when he or she expects to get a second shot. If the teacher is not able to be at school the following day, your child will be participating in distance learning. The morning following the second vaccination, the teacher will communicate with families, providing updates regarding whether they will be at school or if your child will be learning at home.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work towards getting everyone vaccinated.

During the month of March, instead of March Madness, we are focusing on March Mindfulness. In this week's Cougar Corner Video, students will be introduced to the concept of mindful breathing and using a stuffed animal as a "breathing buddy". The simple act of placing a stuffed animal on your child's stomach while breathing in and out will help them utilize mindful breathing as a way to reduce anxiety, increase happiness, and create a calm environment.

For more details about the benefits of mindful breathing, I encourage you to watch the short video below (less than two minutes) by Daniel Goleman. Enjoy.
