Who founded Virginia and why?
Virginia was founded in 1607 by John Smith because the colonists wanted to have another place to live instead of just England and they also wanted a more economical way to live as well. The colony was also named after the Queen, who was not married or a virgin, yep, Virginia's name came from the word virgin. Virginia, in fact, is in the southeatstern part of the U.S., although it looks like it is in the middle.
