A Moment With Mrs. O'Donnell

Dear Attea Families,

Are we bringing in February already? What did the groundhog say? As a reminder, we go out to recess in middle school so the students will be outside for fresh air. Please encourage our students to wear attire that keeps them warm.

I also need to address a few safety and wellness items.

  • For student drop-off, please make sure to go slow and move up in the carpool line to get as close as possible to our Athletic Entrance, which is the drop-off location for student safety and not any other location. The same pattern is used for pick up after school and after activities at 4:15. Pull up to the curb for students to load into the car. For the safety of all, please do not pull through the orange blocks and chains at any time.
  • As many families already know, we are in the middle of cold and flu season as well as seeing an uptick in Covid cases and other illnesses. Please take a moment to review the health and safety protocols for when I child should be kept home from school due to illness
  • I would like to share with families that we are here to support all students. We would appreciate open communication if you have a concern or even a celebration. As an experienced administrator but new to Attea, I want to communicate that our administrative team and staff are here to support all students to think about their actions and make positive contributions to others at Attea!

In honor of Black History Month and responding to student behavior, SEL lessons in February will focus on Bullying and Cultural Awareness. In conjunction with our lessons, we will celebrate KINDNESS WEEK next week with all the students and staff! Let’s continue to encourage and support KIND words and support a caring culture that honors and includes all!

Go Flyers!

2022-23 Illinois 5Essentials Survey

Have you taken the 5Essentials Parent Survey yet?

Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- allows us to help us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders

  • Collaborative Teachers

  • Involved Families

  • Supportive Environments

  • Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.

Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on March 31, 2023. We plan to use the results of this year's survey to give us a clear picture of our schools' climate and culture. If at least 20% of parents participate in the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated and we will share these results with the community.

Graduation Picture Ticket Codes and Proofs

Graduation picture ticket codes will be emailed out to the parents this week. Paper proofs will also be sent home with students by next week. The code you receive via email or on the paper proofs can be entered at ordercp.com to view and order pictures of 8th grade students who took their photos last month.

Graduation Picture Make-Up Day

8th grade student - Did you miss Graduation Picture Day?

Don't worry - the photographers will be back on Tuesday, February 21 for retakes and to take pictures of 8th graders who were absent on the original picture day.

Please mark Tuesday, February 21 on your calendar.
