Lincoln High School Freshman Academy
Welcome incoming 9th graders, parents and guardians. At Lincoln High School, we have a mission to educate all students at high levels. We recognize that students enter high school at different points in their development, and our goal is to help them grow into great high school students. It is with honor that we get to serve the students of Lincoln High School through our Freshman Academy.
What is the Freshman Academy? The Freshman Academy is a structural support system that is designed to help students transition into Lincoln High School. The framework includes an interdisciplinary collaborative team approach that provides the capacity to enhance student performance by allowing time for teachers and support staff to design and implement plans to help each student reach their full potential. Teachers will work together to communicate regularly with families in an effort to help students develop academically, socially, and behaviorally through their 9th-grade year as they earn credits to reach sophomore status.
Transitioning to high school can be challenging in many ways and research shows that a Freshman Academy support system helps students transition more effectively in the areas of academics, grade advancement, behavior modification, and emotional support. In our first four years with a Freshman Academy model we increased the number of 9th graders becoming sophomores, increased overall GPA and credits earned, and increased semester test scores.
As parents, guardians, and mentors you have played an important role supporting our incoming 9th graders. You have an in-depth understanding of your student. Through the Freshman Academy, our teachers and staff will develop quality relationships with you and your students to better enhance their high school experience. Be assured that each of our teachers will have high classroom expectations presented with a positive and encouraging outlook. It is with great enthusiasm that we are looking forward to working with you in a manner that leads to the ultimate success of all of our students!
Sincerely,
Joshua Smith
Freshman Academy Coordinator

We have had a very eventful summer so far. On June 6-12 we took 30 cadets to Washington D.C. for our Orientation Trip this year. We stayed in cabins at Prince William Forest in Virginia. We visited Marine Corps Base Quantico as well as an entire day in Washington D.C. We zip-lined in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and we toured the Civil War Battlefields at Gettysburg Pennsylvania. The trip was very educational and fun. As always, the trip was free to the cadets.
On June 20-24, we conducted our JROTC Drill Camp. Twenty-nine cadets and future cadets participated in the Camp. The Camp is designed to teach Leadership, Teamwork, Physical Training, and Drill. The future cadets that attended will also get promoted to their first cadet rank once school starts.
We also said good-bye to our Senior Marine Instructor (SMI) LtCol Brian Harwell. LtCol Harwell is headed to his home state of Washington to teach at a school with a Navy JROTC program. LtCol Harwell made a positive impact on this program and our cadets. He will be missed and we wish him the best.

Annual Update
It is time! Parents and guardians of students currently enrolled in the Sioux Falls School District who will be with us in the fall should complete the Annual Student Information Update (Online Registration) for each of their children. This is done through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal: https://parentview.sf.k12.sd.us/campus/portal/siouxfalls.jsp . After logging into the Parent Portal, select the option 'More' from the left menu and a link for Annual Information Update will display.
This must be done through parent/guardian accounts only. Household information for ALL students must be updated prior to Lincoln High School Patriot Power Day, August 10, 2022. Only Household A (address that your students’ enrollment is based off) parents/guardians will be able to complete the annual update through the Parent Portal. If Household B has changes to their contact information, the SFSD will be sending out a paper copy in early August for parents/guardians to complete and return to Lincoln High School.
Any student entering 7th through 12th Grade in the Fall of 2022 and planning to participate in the middle school or high school athletics/fine arts program during the 2022-2023 academic year, the Annual Information Update will need to be completed PRIOR to any participation in activities, which includes, but is not limited to, the first practice, workout (summer included) or tryout of an activity in which the student is participating.
If you do not have access to a computer, one is available Monday through Thursday, 7:15 am – 4:45 pm through July 28th and then Monday through Friday, 7:30 - 4:00 pm starting on August 1st at Lincoln High school in the main office.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call LHS at 367-7990. Thank you.
