December Edition
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I hope you all had a great beginning to the month of December. It is definitely that time of year for sickness. Please feel free to reach out to our school nurse, Ms. Jackman, should you wonder whether your child should attend school or stay home. We have had a significant amount of absences these past two weeks.
We ask that families please partner with us by having conversations with your children about the four school rules: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Kind. Over these past few weeks, we have noticed an increase in the need to remind our wonderful students about the meaning of these rules. Working together with families will be the key to our success in this messaging.
As for our academic progress, our teachers have been busy planning "enrichment" blocks for their classrooms. We have revised the daily schedule, which has granted more opportunities on our full-day Wednesdays to offer "enrichment" blocks. Grades kindergarten, one, and two are implementing literacy enrichment while the other grades are focusing on math enrichment. Beginning in April, grades kindergarten, one, and two will implement math enrichment while the other grades will focus on literacy. Please feel free to ask your teacher about these new "enrichment" opportunities.
In this newsletter, you will notice some new information about our nurse department, kindergarten enrollment, and our Haynes Hawk. I hope you enjoy this week's newsletter.
Sincerely,
Nadine Ekstrom, Ph.D.
Interim Principal
All School Meeting
This week's presenter Debbie Stein, from the Mass Audubon, presented our mascot, the hawk, to our students. It was a fascinating presentation. They learned about the qualities of the hawk and the value of the hawk in our society. Below are a few pictures from the presentation. We want to thank HOP for arranging this opportunity for our Haynes School.

Family Resource Centers (FRCs)
We have some families who would like to know more about community-based resources to support a variety of parenting needs and support groups. We have learned that (FRCs) are available in Framingham.
Family Resource Centers (FRCs) are a statewide network of community-based providers offering multi-cultural parenting programs, support groups, early childhood services, information and referral resources and education for families whose children range in age from birth to 18 years old. An FRC is in each of the 14 Massachusetts counties, providing easy access to information and assistance related to health care, safety, employment training, education, and peer support. In each of our communities, our goal is to support families to strengthen their bonds, connect to others, and engage in their community.
At the Framingham Family Resource Center, families can expect a supportive environment within which they can access resources and information, share about community needs, and participate in cultural events, community connection events, and workshops/classes to strengthen skills and abilities. During the first visit, a one-on-one comprehensive intake is completed during which the family’s vision and goals are determined and needs are assessed. FRC offers direct basic need support as well as referrals to other local agencies and services. Children and families who need additional supports or are at risk of court involvement can be assessed by FRC clinicians and develop a Family Support Plan to address the child’s needs. FRC accepts walk-ins and referrals from schools, courts, and community agencies. All services provided are free.
