WM 4th Grade Curriculum Update

Reading and Writing
Reading
We will wrap up our unit titled "Historical Fiction Book Clubs" and begin our final unit of the year that focuses on reading about Social Issues in book clubs.
The big work of this unit is for students to:
compare and contrast the point of view from different stories.
compare and contrast theme across multiple stories
Writing
Students will be finishing their historical fiction stories and finish the year by learning and writing about journalism. This is a great opportunity for everyone to reflect on the amazing year we’ve had.
4th Grade Math
Finishing Unit 7 as well as dedicating some more time to Number Corner and playing workplace games.
If time permits, we will start working with Unit 8
5th Grade Math
If time permits, we will start working with Unit 8
Science
Throughout the school year 4th graders will study:
Rocks and Minerals
Electricity and Magnetism
Structures of Life
Focus on the life cycle of trout and the life cycle of plants
Social Studies
Throughout the school year 4th graders will study:
History of Wisconsin
Five Regions of Wisconsin
United States Regions
LMC - Library
We’ve learned a lot this year! We’ll experiment with a variety of apps to help us share our new knowledge with others.
Music
Mrs. Spahn’s classes will be working on: We will be studying the blues - both the lyrics and the 12-bar blues. Students will be composing their own blues verses and playing the blues on various instruments. Mrs. Spahn’s Music classes will also be having their Spring Music Sharing Days on June 3, 4, and 5! Look for more info to come home about this in June.
Ms. Soltis’ classes will be working on: performing their personal compositions for their final ukulele assessment. We will also be learning about time signature and how music is organized through station rotations. Our final days together at WM will be a jeopardy review game of some key concepts they have learned throughout the years.
Technology
Students will use spreadsheet tools or graphing programs to represent and analyze data. Students will continue to strengthen their typing speed and words per minute.
Art

PE
Our Jump Rope For Heart Event was a HUGE success. We broke the WM Record and raised $15,110 dollars this year! Thank you for all your hard work and support. The month of May will be filled with many exciting things. The 4th Grade Track Meet is scheduled for May 10th! Come to the Middleton High School Track to cheer us on! Aside from geering up for the track meet, you will find us outside playing disc golf and ultimate frisbee. We are looking forward to getting outside as much as possible.
Guidance
We are wrapping up our Guidance lessons this year by learning how to handle peer pressure. It can be difficult to say no to people we like. Students should learn that it is okay to say no and that they needn’t be upset when someone says no to them. Both giving and accepting an assertive refusal are skills. Learning how to resist going along with peers can help students avoid a variety of problem behaviors.
