Inspection -"Show hair": Band

Now that we are getting closer to our first competition, let's touch base about "show hair"!

To pass inspection, hair must be up in sock bun (males and females). See video and images below.

Hair should first be wet, use gel, style slick; no loose hairs – use bobby pins if needed.

If your hair is too long but not long enough to put up in a bun, then use bobby pins or small braids

Hair CANNOT be hanging in your face. The inspection lists can be found on our website FAQ section: What is required to pass inspection?

Private Music Lessons

Much of the success of the Johnson Jaguar Band can be traced back to our students’ high-quality individual musicianship. That individual musicianship is developed not only during daily band class and at-home practice but through our incredible Private Lesson Program.

The band staff has worked diligently to assemble the finest local professionals on each and every instrument to deliver 1-on-1 lessons to our students who enroll in the program! Lessons occur on campus before, during, and after school. Although not required, lessons are highly encouraged. Private lessons are not for remediation but rather enrichment!

Students are encouraged to reach out directly to an instructor to sign up and schedule lessons.

From the director

September here we come!! Just FYI, September is the month of our first marching contest. As we wrap up the month of August, let’s look forward to this week and the month of September.

This week we start with a student holiday. There is no school or rehearsal on Monday, September 5th! There is no school on September 6th, but we do have rehearsal from 5 - 8 p.m. Make sure everyone keeps an eye on the calendar. There is also an additional change this week. Wednesday we have rehearsal from 5 - 8 p.m. to replace the Monday holiday. Thursday and Friday are regular schedules.

Speaking of Friday - can you say Seniors?? Friday is our senior night, and we will recognize our 22 - 23 seniors at the halftime of the Johnson vs Lake Travis football game. We will March our show “Against All Odds” immediately following the game.

In addition to recognizing our seniors we will also be wearing the official Johnson High School Band & Guard Uniform. (The uniforms used in pictures) Please keep in mind that this adds a new process for our students. They will need to be issued their uniforms immediately after school and will check them back in once we arrive at Johnson after the game. They do NOT take these home. As you know, the first time something is done it often takes a little extra time to complete the process. Please be patient as we work though these check out and check in procedures!

Let’s make the very best of this three day week and enjoy the extended weekend! As we close out this short news letter remember “It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar”.

The Beat--A Weekly Update for Percussion-Specific Information

Staying Informed

Staying Informed! The Jaguar Band strives to keep everyone informed about our events and increase the opportunity to answer questions and create conversations with our community. This year, you will be able to find out information not only in our Newsletter and on our Band Calendar, but we will also be sharing them on our Johnson Band website events page and as events on our Facebook page. Our events on Facebook will be used as a primary source for updates and reminders. Don't forget to use your section GroupMe's as a quick and effective way to get your questions answered!

Service Hours

The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.
