Big News with Health Protocols: Please read!!

Because we are seeing such an increase in cases, we need to be vigilant with our 3 Ws... Most our kiddos are doing fantastic with these, and it has kept our number of cases down significantly, compared with other schools. Thank you for your work with your child to encourage them to follow the 3 Ws, in and out of school. We have learned more about spread, particularly with children, so there are new protocols that will go into effect on 8/16. You will receive an email from the county with new guidelines for these new protocols, but one biggie is the quarantine for exposures.

We try hard to minimize student exposure in case a student comes down with Covid. However, we cannot space all students 6 feet, so where we cannot, we have grouped students together in smaller pods (which are separated from other pods) so that any exposure is minimized to the 3 or 4 students in the pod. This has helped a lot. Given what we know about masks effectiveness with young children, beginning Monday, students who are exposed (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) are exempt from the current quarantine IF they have been consistently and appropriately wearing their mask. THIS IS HUGE!!

We will continue to call you if your child has been exposed, but if your child has been following the guidelines for face-coverings, their risk is so minimal, that they will not be required to quarantine. **In a few cases, we have students who are NOT appropriately wearing their mask (over nose, under chin) and who require many, many, many reminders. In these cases, the students would not meet exemption, and would have to quarantine. I know you expect that your child is following the rules, so I have asked teachers to contact you if your child is chronically not appropriately wearing their face covering and needs a reminder from you. If we can avoid them missing school (and you missing work) we certainly want to do that!

Thank you for your support and help in ensuring that our schools stay open and our students stay safe!!
