This is merely a suggestion list to the community plan accordingly. Participation, unless otherwise promoted district-wide (i.e. Maroon and Gold Day, etc.), is not required. JCS ESSER Funds
Johnson City Schools' Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund documents are available for review through this link. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to a Google form where we ask for feedback from all of our stakeholders. Every six months we will use this feedback for our ESSER 3.0 Public Plan-Federal Relief Spending Addendum. Please feel free to review these documents and provide us with feedback.

COMMUNICATIONS HANDBOOK
The communications department has put together a communications handbook to highlight the different platforms the district and schools use to communicate. In this document you will also find specific school colors, school logos, and tips for social media. If you have any questions, please contact Collin Brooks at BrooksB@jcschools.org or 423-218-8682.
This is also the document that the Communications Committee will work from and improve during their meetings.
Information From Finance & Insurance
Health Insurance Open Enrollment is October 1-28, 2022
Open Enrollment for Health Insurance will be October 1st through the 28th. This is the only time during the year changes can be made to your Health Insurance coverage without a qualifying life event. Changes to coverage will be effective January 1, 2023. You will be receiving emails from Partners for Health and Edison regarding open enrollment. You can find resources for open enrollment at jcschools.org/insurance.
Mark III Open Enrollment October 24-28, 2022
Open enrollment for other benefits including Dental, Vision, LT Disability, ST Disability, FBA Spending Accounts and other coverages will be the last week of October. As in previous years, representatives will be at your school to assist with enrollment. As we get closer to open enrollment, schedules for your school and specific plan information will be available.
Open Enrollment for Certified Sick Bank ends October 31st
Open enrollment for the Sick Bank each year is for the months of August through October. The sick bank applies to Certified Staff. In the next week, emails from Finance will go out to Certified Staff informing each individual if they are a participant in the Sick Bank. If you are not currently a participant and are interested, you can find the Sick Bank Application at jcschools.org Departments/Finance.
TCRS Annual Statements are now available at mytcrs.com
For those on the TCRS Retirement plan (all teachers, nurses, and full-time classified staff hired prior to July 1, 2010) your annual statement as of 6/30/22 is now available at mytcrs.com. If you have any questions when reviewing your statement, you may reach out to Leia Valley, Supervisor of Finance at valleyl@jcschools.org.

Quarter 1 Training Attendance
Attendance sign-in sheets are due for all sessions held in the first quarter of the school year if they have not yet been submitted to TLC. Instructors may also go to your instructor accounts and mark attendance for your participants.

Next BOE Meeting
The next Johnson City Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, November 7 starting at 6 p.m. inside the Board Room at Central Office (100 E. Maple Street). Board meetings can be viewed on the Johnson City Schools' YouTube channel.

Science Hill to host Topper Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 27
Science Hill High School will host its inaugural Topper Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 27, from 5 pm to 7 pm inside Grand Topper Hall. All Johnson City Schools students and their families are invited to attend. “We are excited to put this event on for our community,” Science Hill Principal Josh Carter said. “This will provide our community with a safe, indoor space to enjoy trick or treating. Our high school students are looking forward to the opportunity to connect with their younger peers.” School-aged children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to the event. Science Hill athletic teams and clubs will be passing out candy. There will also be different games and family-friendly events.
Science Hill’s Tybre Faw showing students they are never too young to use their voice
Science Hill freshman Tybre Faw may be taking similar steps as his idol, the late Georgia Congressman John Lewis, but he is quickly carving his own path in the world. Faw’s story of meeting his idol during an encounter in Selma, Alabama in 2018 is the basis for a new book called “Because of You, John Lewis”, which was written by New York Times bestselling author Andrea Davis Pinkney.

Johnson City Schools launches STOPit App to empower and protect students
Johnson City Schools has enrolled with STOPit, the leading technology platform for schools that deters and controls harmful or inappropriate conduct. STOPit empowers students with an easy app to safely and anonymously report anything of concern to school officials – from cyberbullying to threats of violence or self-harm. STOPit empowers students to stand up for themselves and others while giving our schools the insight we need to keep students safe. Students can download the App from the Apple Store or Google play store on their mobile device and then search for their Johnson City School. While the reports are anonymous, there will be severe consequences for anyone who is found to have made a false report.

Science Hill junior Aarushi Raj hosting Baby Supply Drive for Ronald McDonald House
Science Hill junior Aarushi Raj completed her first public supply drive last year when she collected books for school-aged children through the United Way of East Tennessee Highlands. After a successful campaign, Raj is refocusing her efforts on something else important to her. The Science Hill junior and member of HOSA has spent time volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. She now uses her power to collect items for babies and their families who are residing at the Ronald McDonald House. Read more - www.jcschools.org/News/461
Seven Science Hill Seniors named National Merit Semifinalists
Seven Science Hill seniors joined 16,000 high school students across the country as they were named National Merit Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

Science Hill AP program continues to grow, offer opportunities
Science Hill High School continues to provide opportunities that challenge its students in the classroom. Most recently, it was announced that Science Hill had 32 students who earned the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma for the 2021-2022 school year. Also, 21 students earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are critical for academic success.
