Principal's Corner
Dearest FSDB families-
Next week, we begin our Fall break. Just a quick note to wish you and your loved ones a restful time to give thanks together. When we come back, we will have three short weeks and then school will be closed for the holidays the weeks of December 20th- December 31st. If you aren’t already following us on Facebook, make sure you go in and do so. This week was a fun week with the basketball homecoming games and our “Out of this World” themed spirit week. You can see some of the pictures on our Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Facebook page. You can also view the skits, the parade, and keep up with the events that are taking place on campus. We hope to see you on our pages!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving week,
Angela Saunders

Hello FSDHS Families,
Homecoming week came and went. It was a successful one! Everyone worked hard and the team work was beautiful. For these that were not there, I hope you enjoyed skit night and coronation from the comfort of your home via our live-streaming option via Vimeo and Facebook page.
That being said, I wish you all a happy fall break. Rest, rejuvenate, and spend time together as families.

FSDB DHS Attendance Policy
I wanted to share with you the attendance policy that you are all familiar with via the parent handbook. Students may not receive credit toward graduation for any High School block 1.0 credit class in which the student has more than 8 unexcused absences, or for any 0.5 credit class in which the student has more than four unexcused absences.
Boarding News!!!
Everyone wants to travel around the holiday seasons! It is especially important to have a plan of when and where you would like to go. The James hall girls made a travelling plan to Disney, Island of Adventure, out of State traveling. As a group they all discussed the appropriate arrangements for the trip including money, transportation, designation, packing, etc. After making important decisions, they made a list of the assorted plans they would be following and finishing the calculations of an amazing travel! We also discussed the safety measures to take during a travel, by staying in groups, looking out for your surroundings, self-care, etc. To finish off the lesson, we wanted to remember to have fun, explore, and stay safe!
Community Service
Our community service, we wanted to be creative and make flannel shirts out of pumpkins! The curriculum group came together to make these pumpkins to spread the fall vibes. We of course use flannel shirts for the outer layer, then got stuffing to stuff the cut-out shirts, then added buttons and decorations to complete the pumpkin! Addition to that, we also wanted to give thanks for all the supportive staff and students. During these tough changes these pass years, we wanted to give back to spread positive thoughts and continue to be the best that we can in FSDB!
Events
This week in Rhyne hall the boys are getting ready for the holiday break, we are doing a deep cleaning of the dorm. The students have already decorated the dorm for Christmas. We are teaching the boys how to repair a broken or cracked smartphone. We also taught them strategies of how to pay their own bills.
Our High school boys helped the Elementary dorm, moving their furniture and helping them arrange the student desks and closets in Vaill Hall. We also started our Pokémon Go club with the Middle school boys. We are going off campus on Thursday, searching for Pokémon. While doing Pokémon Go, the high school boys will also be mentoring the middle school boys. We will be teaching them about off campus safety, how to read and use crosswalks and street signs, and how to avoid danger.
The boys have been active participating in skits and the different homecoming events and themes this month. Wednesday night and Thursday night will be a big day for our High School students, they will be doing skits, parade, and a small dance event for them. The students love showing support for their class and have had some very interesting dress up days.
We are all excited about thanksgiving break, and cannot wait till the boys and girls return so we can hear their wonderful stories of what they did over thanksgiving. Rhyne hall and James hall hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break.
PBiS Incorporates Character Education
FSDB PBiS students are developing great character! Each month, FSDB focuses on a different positive character trait. This month we are emphasizing responsibility. Some of the phrases associated with responsibility that we are introducing to the students include: Do what you are supposed to do • Plan ahead • Persevere: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your words, actions and attitudes • Set a good example for others. Teachers and boarding staff are asked to include lessons that may fit into the curriculum naturally. We are excited with this character education emphasis at FSDB. We are hoping that our students continue to be their very best now and in the future.
