Just having fun!!!
Swim to Nepal- Swim-a-thon is planned!!
From Amy Hines . . .
This past March, I had the opportunity to go with MountainChild 501(c)(3) (www.mountainchild.org) trekking into the Himalayas in Nepal, where on average 16,000 children are sold into child-trafficking each year. I was so impacted by seeing first-hand how MountainChild is making a difference in Nepal, I am returning for 7 months in September as a volunteer. I will be teaching English as a Second Language along with helping teams trek into the remote mountain villages in the Himalayas.
To learn more - please watch this short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr9aQHEEnRI or read the article from the Berkeley Observer
http://www.berkeleyobserver.com/2014/04/30/local-woman-travels-nepal-stop-child-trafficking/
All staff with MountainChild are volunteers, so I am responsible for all travel and living expenses while in Nepal, which will be $18,000.
Palmetto Masters has been so incredibly supportive and encouraging! Many suggested and volunteered to have a "Swim to Nepal" fundraiser.
A special thank you for Jesup for letting us have the event at LTP Swimming, which I really appreciate.
How you can help partner with us to bring hope to the families and children in Nepal?
1) Come to the "Swim to Nepal" event.
When: Saturday, July 12: 6:00 p.m. - Midnight.
Where: LTP Swimming
How Much? Instead of an event cost, we are asking everyone to RSVP and sign-up to bring food or drinks for the cookout/potluck at the link below:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c054faaad22a6fa7-swim
At the event:
*Silent Auction items from local businesses and Nepal - including jewelry and scarves made in Nepal by those who have been rescued from sex trafficking, *Donation station
2) Tax-Deductible donations can be made:
http://www.razoo.com/story/Bringing-Hope-To-Nepal
3) Other Ideas:
*Many employers have matching gift programs when an employee donates to a non-profit - perhaps yours is one of them.
*If you have a group of friends, department at work, church group, etc. that you think might be interested I am glad to come and share.
*Does anyone know of businesses or individuals that might be willing to match "$$" for a per "x" laps swam that night?
*I have contacted many local businesses for silent auction items. If anyone would like information to pass on to a business and/or has a contact for me to talk to or email, please let me know.
Thank you again for all of your support!
