THANK YOU PTA & GUEST COMMUNITY

On behalf of the Guest staff, let me say a very big "THANK YOU" to all of you for making this week absolutely amazing. We truly felt like SUPER HEROES. Many staff members received notes of appreciation from families and students. We enjoyed breakfast, two luncheons, desserts, and many snacks. We are so grateful for all that you each did to share your thanks. We are equally thankful for the things that you do each day to partner with us in making your child's educational experience a positive one emotionally, socially, and academically.

A special THANK YOU to Beth Polinsky and her family for organizing the daily events, including set-up and clean-up every day. We all enjoyed getting to know your wonderful family.

PRINCIPAL SURVEY

As part of my yearly evaluation, the district asks parents/families to fill out a survey regarding my leadership. Thank you in advance for taking the time to fill out this SURVEY.

COLLECTING FOR the 2018 SPRING CARNIVAL BASKETS

Dear Families,

We will be raffling off themed baskets at the Spring Carnival on Friday, June 1, 2018. Staff will be collecting various donations until May 23rd, to put in these baskets. You can donate to any basket by sending in your donation to the office or your child's classroom teacher. Thank you for considering and helping to raise money for the students at Mary Helen Guest Elementary!

WE HAVE A NAME! STUDENTS VOTED AND THE WINNING NAME IS...

THERAPY DOG

The students voted and our pup has a name! Winning by 27 votes is the name Champion! We are so excited to welcome Champ to our school family. We held an assembly to announce the news to the school. Students were excited to hear that while Champ is with the trainer, she is learning how to be safe, responsible, and respectful just like everyone else in our school. Mark your calendars for MHG's Annual Spring Carnival on 6/1/18 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Guaranteed to be a fun night for everyone with games, prizes, raffle baskets, silent auctions, food, and more! All Guest Families are invited! Pre-registration is now open. Registration forms are available online at www.mhguestpta.com.

CALLING ALL NEW KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

Kindergarten Information

Incoming kindergartners must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2018.


Research indicates that developmentally appropriate full-day schedules benefit kindergarten children academically, socially and emotionally. Our principals and teachers understand this and are well equipped to meet the needs of our kindergarten students.


Our kindergarten students begin to learn a whole host of reading, writing and mathematics concepts and learning strategies that give them the foundation for a successful elementary school career in Walled Lake Schools.

5th GRADE CAMP DATES FOR 2018-2019

Our 5th graders will be going to camp the end of September from the 26th - 28th. Fifth grade teachers will hold a Camp Meeting the night of 5th grade Curriculum which is September is 5th from 6:30 - 8:00pm.

wlcsd communicates on district budget and school funding

Walled Lake Schools has been reducing and struggling with funding for more than 17 years. This challenge is caused by declining revenue received from the State of Michigan as well as an overall reduction in our student population. Please take some time to watch this video on the WLCSD budget. Please open this link on the School Finance Research Collaborative. It is an important study on our state’s approach to funding public education. You can all sign up to support this project. Lastly, you can write your legislators about adequate funding for public education.

FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE 9th ANNUAL GOLF OUTING

The Walled Lake Schools’ Foundation for Excellence invites you to support their 9th Annual Golf Scramble set for June 25 at Edgewood Country Club, Commerce Twp.

This fun-filled community event will further the Foundation’s mission to enrich K-12 classrooms across the WL District within the areas of literacy & leadership, community & diversity, science, technology & the arts and District programs and support the FFE annual grant program.
