Brain Awareness Campaign
2nd Grade participated in the annual Atlanta Brain Awareness Campaign on Thursday! The Atlanta Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (ACSfN) sponsors free school visits from Atlanta neuroscientists. This is a outreach program in which a volunteer comes to teach students all about the wonders of the brain. This year our neuroscientist volunteer taught 2nd grade all about different characteristics of animal brains AND also how the eyes effect the brain's reaction. The students were involved in many different hands on experiments and open discussions. Both 2nd grade classes were a great audience curious and FULL of questions about the brain and our bodies. After learning about the brain, they were given the opportunity to create their own brain model out of play-doh and present it to their peers. The morning was extremely fun, and we learned so much..... but the highlight of the morning was when the students were given the opportunity to touch a REAL brain!! It was an exciting day for our 2nd grade students.

Summer Skills Workbooks
Offered by Schools
Purchased by Parents
Benefitting Students
Many parents are looking for helpful tips for their child to stay on top of their academics over the summer. The Summer Skills books are three different series of review books (math, language arts, and foreign language) for students from pre-k through high school. Each grade level book helps students maintain their academic skills over the summer months. If you are looking for something to help your child review and stay sharp over the summer, please consider ordering these Summer Skills Workbooks for your FSAPS child. Orders should be turned in to me no later than Friday, April 22nd.
For our class, you can purchase a language arts and/or a math skills workbook for your child for $19.00 each. If you are interested, please indicate which subjects you would like to order for your child on the order form and send it in by Friday, April 22nd. Checks should be made out to FSAPS. You should be ordering the grade level they have completed this year – this will serve as a fantastic review of the skills they have learned this year and make sure they are ready for the beginning of the next school year. These orders will arrive to the school in May and we will distribute them to the students before the summer break!
For more information, details, and samples about each book - please visit the following website: http://www.summerskills.com/
