Milestone Reports
Students earn a description as one of the following:
Beginning Learners do not yet demonstrate proficiency
Developing Learners demonstrate partial proficiency
Proficient Learners demonstrate proficiency
Distinguished Learners demonstrate advanced proficiency
You can find a description of each in the second page of your student's report. It is our goal for all students to reach the proficient level. For students already demonstrating proficiency, our goal is for their performance to be at the distinguished level.
Milestone testing occurs each spring at the conclusion of the school year. Below, you will find a study resource that you can use to help your child begin preparing early.
We will be monitoring your child's achievement and progress using MAPS assessments throughout the year and sharing those results with you. The MAPS assessments help us see where children are currently performing on the standards for the current grade level. We will be sending MAPS results home on Tuesday, September 6th. More information about MAPS will be in next week's newsletter.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome back to DCMS for the 2022 to 2023 academic year! My name is Jordan LeFevre and I am very excited to be joining the Dawson County Middle School team this year as the School Counselor. This is my 10th year in school counseling, and my 6th year in Dawson County. I have a Bachelors in Family and Consumer Science from the University of Georgia, a Masters in School Counseling from Mercer University and an EdS in School Counseling from Valdosta State University.
I am eager to get to know you and your students as we embark on this journey together. My goal as a school counselor is to provide support for your student’s academic, social, emotional, and career development. I will be providing student support through classroom guidance lessons, individual counseling, and small groups. As a school counselor, I will work diligently to serve and support students and their families. I would love your input as a parent in the school counseling program, please take just a few moments to complete this survey.
Additionally, I would like to provide you with a free mental resource that could be of assistance for you and your child outside of school the 988 Crisis line. This is a 24/7 number similar to 911 that can assist you in the instance that you encounter a mental health crisis within your home.

If I can help you or your students at any point this year please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Sincerely, Jordan LeFevre

This week your students will begin their social emotional learning journey via a program called 7Mindsets. This platform allows students to pursue various mental health mindsets throughout the year using simple, yet powerful language. Students will participate in these lessons via their tutorial class each Friday. They will watch short videos, have classroom discussion, and take time for individual application. To learn more about this amazing program follow this link to their parent newsletter. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the DCMS counselor.
