3rd Grade News!

The focus is on identifying sequence and events. We are finding the order of events with in the text. The students look for sequence (signal) words within the story to help them recognize the order of events in a story. The students take what they have learned and apply sequencing into their own leveled reading book that is "Good Fit" for them. This strategy will also be helpful for the students as they write their "personal narratives".
In spelling we finished our spelling patterns with the ending -ing and -ed. We will be moving to past tense words along with plural patterns.
During Unit 3 students will learn that they should use multiplication to find how many in all. We will also use multiplication to solve story problems. Regardless of the strategy that the student uses, they need to be able to explain their work, verbally and in written form. Encourage your students to explain their new multiplication strategies. Please also take time at night to practice addition and subtraction facts.
Students will learn about bones, joints, muscles, and coordination. The students will do experiments to help them learn about these concepts. The students will be making vocabulary cards and have a study guide for each section that they study. Please watch for the study guides and vocabulary cards and study them with your child. This unit is fun and the kids learn a great deal too.

Oct 29th- Our classes will be dressing up as "tourists" for Theme Day. This theme lines up with the regions that we study during social studies. Please have your child dress up as a tourist, but make sure that they will be warm enough for recess, also.
