Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term - Issue 3

A word from Miss Mackay

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you to our wonderful Sherburn Hungate community for making my first week as Acting Headteacher such an enjoyable one. What a busy last week of term we have had!

Year 6 have now moved onto preparing for their performance - a pantomime! Auditions took place this week and Miss Sowden and I had some tricky decisions to make. Details of performance times and tickets will be available after the half term break. Year 5 have continued taking to the streets of Sherburn with the Bikeability team. I've seen Year 3 and 4 outside playing tennis and getting ready for Sports Day. (Please see the dates for Sports Day at the bottom of the page) A big well done to the Year 2 team, who have completed all the KS1 SATs papers over the month of May. Year 1 said goodbye to Miss Nunn, who has been completing her teaching placement with us this half term. Mr Woofindin has really enjoyed working with the EYFS children preparing them for their Sports Day. Safe to say, everyone is ready for a week off!

Yesterday, Mr Broom was back with us for the day. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in school, visiting all the children and managing to chat with some of you on the playground. He even got chance to help Mr Woofindin with Football Club.

I hope that you all have a safe, happy and healthy break and look forward to seeing you back at school for our final half term on the 3rd June.

Best wishes

Miss Mackay

Weekly Attendance

This week's attendance is 92.7%. This is well below the national average. Next term we will be having a big push on attendance and punctuality.

Congratulations to Y3 on the highest attendance this week, which was 97.42%

School Dinners

Thank you to those families who pay for school meals for each half term - the cost for the next half term will be £80.50. Our Year 6 children leave Hungate on 28 June, so the cost of their lunches until the end of June is £46.00.

A polite reminder that all parents MUST pay in advance for pupil's lunches, ideally weekly on
a Monday, monthly or half termly through ParentPay. We recommend making a minimum payment of £11.50, this pays for five meals which can be used in one week or can be spread over several weeks if your child does not want school dinners each day.

Thank you in advance.

EYFS Incubator Back in School

We're soon to have chicks in our Early Years Setting and the incubator and eggs will be arriving shortly. It's an incredible experience for the children to see, and all classes will have the opportunity to see the chicks. Real learning!

We can only provide these opportunities for our children by asking for help from parents. Our Friends' Association have kindly agreed to fund 50% of the costs, but we are asking for parents to please make a £1 donation per child on ParentPay and this will ensure your child gets a cuddle with the chicks!.

The Grand Opening!

Work is now complete on our new and improved wildlife garden and boasts the new greenhouse structure which was made out of recycled plastic bottles. The children are already using the garden and the frogs are back in the new pond too!

We would love for you to join us at the official opening on Thursday 20th June from 2.30pm until 3.30pm. This will allow you to look at the new garden and help celebrate the amazing renovation work and there are rumours of a special vegetable guest!

There will be some local specialists on hand to help answer any questions you may have as well as our resident expert Mr Kelly.

I do hope to see lots of you there.

Gala Champions (again!)

Friends of Sherburn Hungate School would like to thank all the parents, teachers and children who joined us in the Gala Parade this year. Huge thanks also to everyone who helped in the preparations and decorations. Such a huge team effort and we are really pleased to announce that we WON the school float competition! What a great day and fantastic for us as a school to join in the community celebrations.

Can you help us win £5,000 for our school library?
