Week 9 Review
Trail of Tears, WE Day, The Second Great Awakening, Reform
Week of 11.2 - 11.6
11.3 I had a substitute and attended WE Day in St. Paul along with the top 30 7th Graders who volunteered the most time to Community Service. It was a great day, very inspiring! The class watched the WE Day festivities via webcast in the classroom.
11.4: We discussed the Trail of Tears and examined a painting (see photo) about it. Students read like a Historian to determine its reliability. Ask your child to tell you why it isn't historically accurate. We then looked at two primary sources about Indian Removal and worked in groups to infer how different people felt about the Indian Removal process.
11.5: We discussed the Seneca Falls Convention and Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 and how this was really the start to the Women's Rights Movement. Students watched a short video about the Convention and broke into groups to put the Declaration of Sentiments into language a 7th Grader could understand.
11.6: We continued to research of the Declaration of Sentiments in groups. I also informed the kids that if they have 3 or more missing assignments that they would have to eat lunch with me starting on Monday, hopefully that is enough incentive to get caught up over the weekend!
