Tiger Tracks
Parent Newsletter - Issue #276 - April 5, 2020
Dear Tiger Family,
Thank you for all you do to stay engaged virtually with our community. We loved seeing everyone at our Spirit Nights and will continue to host them with appropriate social distancing encouraged. Check our Twitter @THS_Tigers for more details.
This week we will engage fully in online content learning. We know this is a transition and adjustment. Please know we are here to help you navigate the new normal. Our staff is committed to supporting all Tigers throughout this new learning.
Because we are unable to follow through with our typical advisory lessons, we will post a Josten's Renaissance Harbor video from Mike Smith weekly. Our goal is to maintain the advisory classroom environment and to virtually find ways to build community, take care of one another, and stay rooted in love.
Click here for this week's video. We challenge you to use these reflection questions to debrief the video with your children.
We are One, We are Family, We are Tigers!
our typical classroom critical discussion guide with a piece more conducive to individual reflection.

If your student needs a device and you did not complete the district online survey, only then should you call the FBISD Call Center (281) 634-0043.
If you already have a device and Internet access at home you can check with you data carrier for specific instructions on how to convert your smart phone into a hotspot.
Comcast also has affordable high-speed Internet that is currently free for 60 days and $10 per month for qualified families (https://www.internetessentials.com/apply ). They also have devices for very low cost. There are other opportunities as well such as AT&T (https://m.att.com/shopmobile/internet/access/ ).
A Message from THS Librarian Mrs. Spina
We have many ebooks and audiobooks available through our library catalog. Most of these are single user access, meaning that they can only be read by one student at a time. This is particularly true for new titles. I'm working on a how to video that you can share with students. To access ebooks, students (and teachers 🙂) will log in to the catalog with their regular username and password.
This is the best option I've seen for having multiple students reading the same book, especially if you want access to new books. JLG will allow many students to access the same book. They have both ebooks and audiobooks. JLG focuses on new books and also adds new books each month. There are a variety of topics and reading levels covered and the books are specifically selected for children and teens. They also don't require any sign up or subscription. Student just click and read!
Here is info from the JLG website.
I've also attached a helpful how to video from the librarian at Dulles HS.
Scribd is an online ebook service that offers a 30 day free trial. This would require students to sign up, but does not require credit card information. There are many, many books and audiobooks available. This service would include adult content as well.
Preview the books available here.
Audible is also free for the time being. Audible is the audiobook platfrom from Amazon. These are exclusively audiobooks.
Most of you are probably already aware of Project Gutenberg. There are thousands of books available for free here. They are all books that are no longer under copyright in the US, so this would be a great place for your students to access classics.
