Alex's Lemonade Stand
September is childhood cancer awareness month. The Special Education Department at Longfellow Elementary chose to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand as their annual outreach project this year.
The Special Education team of teachers, counselor, students, and paraprofessionals held a lemonade stand after school on September 23-27. Lemonade was available for purchase for $1 each day. The students initially set a goal of $300, increasing that goal to $500 later in the week.
Students, parents, and staff were able to honor a child who has fought cancer with a lemon on the stand that has their name on it. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation supports childhood cancer research, as only 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes for childhood cancer.
Along with the lemonade stand, students in Mrs. Kava’s MI classroom had a traveling lemonade stand for teachers throughout the week with Mrs. Gigstad.
We are thrilled to announce we raised $1,235.39.Breakfast Buddies
This year we are trying something a little different. If you would like your child to participate in breakfast buddies, but can't find anyone to attend please contact the office. Our student council will come and have breakfast with your child. We understand how sometimes work schedules can be very complicated. This way all students can participate.
First grade will have theirs on November 19 and second grade breakfast buddies will be held on December 10.
