The diversity of the student population, the friendships I have formed with many of my coworkers, the proximity to so many fast food places. . . ;)
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
I would tell my 16-year old self that it does get better, focus on yourself and find what makes you happy, and stop stressing over getting low B's in Chemistry.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I enjoy collecting movies, music, and books, working out, searching out-of-the-way places to buy things to resell on eBay, hanging out with family and friends, home improvement projects, board games and trivia, 1950s-1980s pop culture, spending time at the beach, watching true crime TV shows and documentaries, classic VWs, crossword puzzles, mid-century modern architecture and design, spontaneous adventures, graphic design work, and any creative endeavors for myself or others.
What do you love about the Whitehall-Coplay School District?
As a 1996 graduate of WHS, I spent 13 years in the district from kindergarten until my senior year and now teach in the very same art room in which I was a student. Now, as a teacher here, I get to work alongside some amazing co-workers who have become close friends and a few who are practically like family. I love the excitement of my students and the positive energy they bring to my art room every day. Generally speaking, I get to have fun for a living…how many people can say that? Plus, the two minute commute to and from work is pretty sweet, too! My Whitehall roots run deep and wide.
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
Dear 16-year-old Chad: Invest in Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Amazon stock. You’ll thank me/yourself later.

What do you love about the Whitehall-Coplay School District?
I have a lot of pride in Whitehall and have thoroughly enjoyed being a Zephyr. My dad was on the 1982 state championship basketball team at Whitehall and 17 years later, I started my journey as a student of the district in 1999. My sister also attended Whitehall, graduating in 2014. As a 2012 graduate, I always knew I wanted to give back to the educational community that provided me with my education. I love that all of our schools are located on one campus; offering a sense of community and partnership amongst buildings. I feel a sense of “home” being able to teach alongside educators who have taught me as a student and who also have the same maroon & gold pride as I do. I truly enjoy working in such a diverse district under driven administrative leadership. I’m honored to be a part of old traditions as well as new ones.
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
I would tell my 16-year-old self to not sweat the small stuff! I’d remind myself to stay true to my values and morals and believe that everything will fall into place, alongside hard-work and drive.
Donna Genevese, Steckel Elementary, Reading Specialist and ECRI coach
How many years have you worked in education?
37 years
How many years have you worked in the district?
37 years - I started at Whitehall High School as a special education teacher and field hockey coach. This also included teaching third and fourth grade enrichment. Then I became a fourth grade teacher, and I am now a second and third grade reading specialist and ECRI coach.
What are your favorite hobbies?
Spending time with my family, reading, and volunteering at the Whitehall Food Pantry and Summer Feeding Program.
What do you love about the Whitehall-Coplay School District?
I chose to move to Whitehall so that my husband and I could raise our sons in the community in which I was teaching because I love how all of the schools are on one campus. This allows for older students to easily take part in mentoring and reading with younger students. My two sons, Anthony and Aaron, still remember when they were in elementary school and older students joined them. They were also able to do this for younger students while they were in middle and high school. Also, the district is not too big and not too small so that all student needs can be met. The WCSD provides many academic, music, art, and athletic programs. My sons greatly enjoyed participating in the powerlifting club and playing linemen for the football team!
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
My advice is to not give up pursuing dreams no matter how stressful it may become. Even though I was extremely busy because of being in the Liberty High School Grenadier Band and orchestra, playing field hockey, studying very hard to get my grades, and working at Carvel, learning to have time management skills and work ethic is what really helps you to achieve your dreams as you get older.
