The Nun & the Plowman
{Ashlyn A, Kyndal G, Elyssa D}
The Nun
- She doesn't let any food go to waste, which causes her to be overweight. Nuns are supposed to be generous and live a humble life and she lives better than most people. The left over food she has she gives to her dogs instead of other people who are in need, which is another thing nuns are supposed to do and believe in.
"Pleasant and friendly in her ways, and straining to counterfeit a courtly kind of grace," (Lines 142 &143)
- She was a nice person who wanted to be noble. She acted like she was upper class because she wanted to be upper class even though she was supposed to be living humbly as a nun.
The nun is described as neat, overweight, charming (fake), generous (not to the right people), with a pretty face a nasally voice. Most of the things she believed in and did were not along the lines of the rules of the church. She was well dressed and had a big forehead which implied royalty (which she wasn't).
Comparison: Jennifer Lopez in Maid in Manhattan, because they are both trying to put on act of being upperclass.
The Plowman
- He was a good man who was also a hard worker. This quote helps show you that even other people see him as a good guy.
"Loving God best with all his heart and mind" (Line 545)
- He was a church man and believed in the power of the Lord. You see what kind of values he has as a person and what kind of 'rules' he lives by.
Comparison: Pope Francis, because both men came from very little and still turned out to be good, humble people.
