A Window Into Learning
Take a peek at our creating, thinking and innovating!
Learning to be Letter Writers
After visiting with Mayor Stone, Mr. Matt and the firefighters, Room 116 had some letter writing to do to say thank you. Writing and Reading go hand in hand. Good readers result in good writers. Good writers make good readers. We are working hard on stretching out words to hear all the sounds, making sure we have punctuation at the end of sentences, finger spaces between our words and that our sight words are spelled correctly. Encourage your member of Room 116 to write a letter and mail it. Email/Facetime/Texting are immediate but there is something special about a letter in a mailbox.
Writing A Letter of Thanks
Happy Reading!
Mrs. McDevitt immerses Room 116 in literature daily. We have a reading diet of fiction and nonfiction. She wants us to love the knowledge and entertainment that is found in a book. She loves it when our reading logs get filled and she has to give us a new one. She loves to hear when we visit Mr. Matt in the afternoons at the PR library. She loves it when somebody in Room 116 comes up and tells her something learned from a book. She loves listening to us read books to her because we are becoming such strong readers. Thank you for making sure we are reading at home every day! The slide show below fills Mrs. McDevitt's heart with such joy!
Happy Reading
Ipads In Room 116
As you may already know , our class has 10 ipads. They are dearly loved by Room 116. We are in the learning stages of using them in an educational setting. We are experts on taking care of the ipads. We can't wait for the learning opportunities that will emerge with this school tool.
The Ipads have a home
The Benefits of Games
We play a lot of games in Room 116. Mrs. McDevitt really loves card games for math. Not only are we strengthening and creating our math skills, but we are learning turn taking, logical thinking, conversation skills and being a good sport. Have game night at your house on a regular basis with any kind of game! The quickest game you will ever play (it is perfect for those final few minutes right before bedtime) is called Blink. Blink is marketed as the World's Fastest Game. You can find it in the card section at Target and Walmart or Amazon. Your whole family will love it and visual discrimination and eye-hand cooridination will benefit.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip is Tuesday!
It looks like perfect weather for a trip to the Pumpkin Patch! Remember to dress your child in a red PRS tshirt or a solid red t-shirt. Do not send a lunch because lunch is provided at the Pumpkin Patch. You may want to apply sunscreen before leaving home because our day of learning will be spent outside! As we prepare for our second field trip, enjoy photos from field trip #1.

Scientists
Scientists think logically, uses their senses, count, sort, draw, ask questions, write, measure, predict, experiment and have fun. Sounds like it is pretty cool to be a scientist.
Learning to be A Scientist
This week in Room 116
In math, we are talking about odd/even numbers. We will be working with more than/less than. We continue to work on addition and subtraction.
In reading, look for a BLUE reading notebook to come home Wednesday or Thursday. An email will be sent later in the week with the purpose of the blue notebook.
We begin a topic on narrative writing in Writer's Workshop.
Sight Words for the week: big, fly
Be sure to return poetry journals on Monday. Our poem this week will help us with the formation of our letters.
Don't forget to send a letter of excuse within two days of your child being absent.
Thanks for supporting the book fair! Not only are you raising a reader but you are helping out PRS.
