Leader in Me!! Updates & Addendums
All students will be given a warning (2 strikes) and then they will clip down to yellow. If behaviors continue their clips will go to orange and red. Clips will no longer restart when entering the next classroom (For example, if your child clips down to yellow in 1st block, that is where they will begin 2nd block).
The consequences will start with 5 minutes structured recess, a note in the agenda, email, phone call and then parent/teacher conference. If the behaviors are severe an office referral will be given.
All students will also have a chance to clip up to blue and purple. Every time they receive a brag tag they will clip up from where ever they happen to be.
Remember that students can clip up and down according to behaviors that happen in the classroom, hallways, special area, recess and lunch. Please review the school rules and your expectations with your child.
Literacy/Reading
Some time next week, please be looking for your child's story to come home to be edited by you. Please don't change their story, you will have an editing checklist to follow. We can't wait for you to read these stories. They are amazing!
Beginning March 13th students will be given a reading passage for homework. The passage will be given out on Monday and due back by Friday. The passages will be graded!!
Math
This week in math we are continuing to multiply fractions. We will have a quiz this Friday, March 3. The multiplying part is easy for the kids who know their math facts. If your child does not know their multiplication facts they make silly mistakes that lead to the wrong answer.
The other aspect that is hard for students, is putting those multiplication problems into word problems. If you want to practice, multi step word problems are the hardest. A lot of the time once the kids comprehend what is being asked they can preform the operations needed to do the math.
Next week in math we will begin dividing fractions. Our students are doing a great job with fractions so I am excited to begin the next phase.
Science
This week in Science we learned about how food chains and food webs demonstrate the flow of energy from one organism to the next. We also examined the different components of a food chain and discussed the purpose of an energy pyramid.
Next week, we will find out more about the effects of changing one item in an ecosystem. Our first Ecosystems quiz will be on March 17th, with a study guide coming soon. Students will also find out about their Ecosystems project (due on 3/21) when they get their rubric and directions next week.
