Happy New Year Wamsley Families!
I hope this newsletter finds you healthy and settling into this new year! We have had a great first week back to school here at Wamsley! Your kids are getting back into their routines and something new appeared here at school! Have your students shared that there is a “Why Try? Wall” built in our hallway that has been blocking our normal routines? The wall has many phrases posted on it that we often hear from students as they work during the day - some of them might shock you or you may hear them at home as well. In the coming weeks, we will be presenting 15 minute lessons every day addressing topics that impact your students every day. These lessons will help us refine our focus on "Effort = Achievement!" Ask your students about what they are learning!
Even though we made it to 2021, COVID is still with us and I want to thank you all for continuing to monitor symptoms and keep your children home! We have averted a couple of quarantines because of you and your diligence with helping us! Remember to keep your children home and call us if they have any symptoms. Also, please keep your children home if they have been exposed to COVID, or to someone who was exposed, or if anyone in the family is being tested! I cannot thank you enough for your efforts! We are able to stay open and keep as many kids in person as possible with your support!
In February we are trying something new with our PTAC meeting. We will have live Spanish translation for anyone that would like to join and see what our parent organization is up to! We have an amazing group of parents that support our efforts here and we always welcome anyone who would like to join us and help support your teachers and students. See you at 4pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2021! Call the office and we will share the meeting link with you. See you there!
Here’s to a 2021 filled with good health and many blessings! Thank you for all your support!
Art
In Art class, we are Jr. Architects drafting blueprints, and building small cardboard models of our designs. 5th graders are working on Organic Architecture and designing homes that co-exist with nature. We learned about the architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his famous home "Fallingwater" built right over a waterfall in Pennsylvania! Kinders designed geometric shape houses and are now trying to replicate them in cardboard. 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st will begin their architecture projects in the next few weeks. Here's hoping for a wonderful 2021!!

First Grade
Happy New Year! Second semester is a time of amazing growth in first grade. We are already off to a great start! In Social Studies, students are learning about saving and spending money. They will learn about the value of coins. During writing block, kids are researching topics and writing informative paragraphs. They will also be writing opinion paragraphs this month. In math, students are using a number grid for activities like counting, identifying numbers, and finding patterns. Thanks for helping us by making sure your child’s Chromebook is charged and returned to school each day along with the workbooks that are being sent home.

Fourth Grade
We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating winter break. It has been nice to get back to our regular classroom routines. In reading, we started our next unit that focuses on culture and folktales. In writing, we are starting to write narratives that have a theme or a lesson the author wants you to learn. In math, we finished up our multiplication and division unit and will begin our unit on fractions. In social studies, we are continuing with our study of Colorado history, learning about explorers and mountain men that influenced the development and culture of Colorado. In science, we are continuing our Physical Science unit, learning about matter and energy. Please continue reading with your child every night for at least 20 minutes. Thank you for all you do to support your child’s education.
