Where the Adventure Begins...
Guest Readers, Illustrators, Parades, Oh My!!
What a WONDERFUL week we had celebrating National Children's Book Week! Mrs. Jenkins outdid herself! She made sure we had the book fair open an extra week and she scheduled so many fun guest readers to share fun books with our students a couple days this week. She even got our Superintendent, Dr. Waldrip, to come read to us! One of our sweet bus drivers even got in on the action! Then she scheduled A.G. Ford, an illustrator, to come share his story, some of his work, and draw with us! He is incredibly talented and we absolutely loved having him here! We topped everything off with our annual Book Character Parade today! The children were PRECIOUS, whether they did joint costumes with their classes or came dressed up on their own. And I got so many great pictures this week that it was too hard to narrow down to just one or two. Lots of pictures are below so be sure you check those out! THANK YOU, Mrs. Jenkins, for planning such enriching experiences for us as we continue to nurture a love for reading with our littlest learners!!
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! My admin team and I are hard at work planning ways to let our entire staff know how much we appreciate each of them! We hope you'll join us in showing your appreciation to those staff members who serve your children each day. It's hard work, but truly an honor to get to care for and teach your precious little ones!
I hope all of your families have a wonderful weekend enjoying the beautiful weather!

The Counselor Corner
Is your family ready for a new pet? Here are some things to consider from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry before getting a pet:
· Consider getting a pet your child can help care for
· Children under 3 or 4 years old need to be monitored around pets
· Children under 10 are unable to be completely responsible for a pet
· Parents should monitor children even if they thing the children are mature enough to be alone with a pet
· Understand that as a parent you may have to care for the pet if the child forgets to or loses interest
· If a child does forget to care for a pet, gentle reminders are more effective than scolding
· When a child consistently avoids or forgets to help with pet duties, then it’s time to consider a new home for the pet
· Like many other parenting tips, model responsible behavior with the pet
There are many benefits for children when they become pet owners. A child who has a positive relationship with his/her pet can help develop healthy relationship with others. It can aid in helping the child understand empathy, compassion, and build strong communication skills. There are many advantages of pet ownership which support emotional and physical development.
