Team 9 Core Classes

Language Arts

Last Tuesday, students put the narrator of "The Tell-Tale Heart" on trial to determine if he is guilty of murder or innocent due to insanity. We had SO much fun! Most classes determined that the narrator should be found innocent due to insanity. See pictures below of the trial!

Students just finished their first big essay of the year. This essay serves as their final assessment for unit one. Each student had to elaborate on the ways in which people manipulate the truth using evidence from our three unit one stories. I am excited to share my feedback on their essays this week! Ask your student if you can see their essay and the feedback I provided to them.

Our second unit of the year begins on Monday October 7th. The focus of this unit will be on one of the most famous books ever written--To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Even though this book was published in 1960, the lessons it contains are more important than ever. We will start this book the week of October 7th. Students will receive their very own copy of the book on Wednesday the 9th, and our first quiz over chapters 1-3 will be on Friday the 11th. Ask your student to tell you about this novel!

Please feel free to e-mail me at any time with questions or concerns about your student's progress in Language Arts. I am happy to help with all of your needs! Thank you for sharing your student with me--I'm having a great school year with this group of 8th graders.

US History

This week we applied the Bill of Rights to real life. We created a Student Bill of Rights and then we looked at actual Supreme Court cases and applied the Bill of Rights to see if there was a violation. If you want to challenge our High Score of 4,900 by Lorna Rae on iCivics "Do You Have A Right?" game use this link : https://www.icivics.org/games/do-i-have-right

This week students also wrote their own opinion to a real Supreme Court case applying the rights in the Amendments to the Constitution.

Next week, we will learn about Federalism, Political Parties and Elections as we move in to Unit 3- America's First Presidents!

Science

This week we're about to wrap up our sound unit. Meaning we're starting light next week!

Students are still able to make up the grades marked as "0s." In order to be able to retake the test, they will need to have the corrections done on their test as well as their interactive notebook(INB) up to date. They will be able to use their INBs on the retest again!

As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!
