Theme
Everyone on the world needs to try to care for each other.
Sound Devices
"He hears the hum of the boy's dream" (11)
This shows how much he understands what the boy does.
"if we're not willing to do what he's doing" (15)
We all have to want to do take care of each other in order for it to work out.
"No car must splash him." (4)
Looking out for everyone can be a fragile thing and shouldn't be interrupted.
Imagery
"A man crosses the street in rain," (1)
Getting along may be difficult to do because of other things surrounding you.
"because his son is asleep on his shoulder." (3)
The father takes care of his son like we should take care of each other.
"His ear fills up with breathing." (10)
We have to be very close to each other and understanding.
Figurative Language
"He hears the hum of the boy's dream deep inside him" (11)
The father loves his son and can see his point of view like we should see other people's.
"The road will only be wide. The rain will never stop falling." (16,17)
If we don't try to do this, things will always be difficult.
"This man carries the worlds most sensitive cargo." (6)
If we ever became successful in taking care of each other, it would be really hard to keep up.
Why I like this poem...
I like this poem because I think it has a good theme and I agree with it. Also, I like the way that it shows the theme using the father and son.
