Parenting + Remote Learning + Attendance 2020-21

Schools reopened remotely, it's a good time to survey anew your home routines, work spaces, and screen limits. This newsletter offers curated resources for managing the pandemic-enforced school/home merger. Good luck and don't forget to breathe!

Mindfullness-A Mindful Minute

Being mindful means being aware of your thoughts, emotions, and how you're feeling. Mindfulness is a form of meditation with an important aspect to it—acceptance. It means being aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

1) Taking Care of You:

Thinking through how to manage your time.

While we're not quite in quarantine anymore, with kids staying home and parents working from home, it can still feel as if we are. This article offers helpful tips for managing your time.

2) Supporting your kids through these challenging days:

An opportunity to help kids develop inner strength

This article gives helpful tips for nurturing kids' resiliency -- yes, we're all missing out on A LOT, but let's offer other ways to think about it all.

Toddlers are one thing; teenagers another...

This article gives some good tips for how to give teenagers their space when it feels like we're all stuck in one room, together.

3) Getting your kids to help out:

Attendance Matters!

It is important for your child to participate in remote learning by logging in during teacher face-to-face time, engage in group discussions, complete class assignments, assessments and independent assignments to be considered present from 8:30 a.m. to 3:09 p.m.

Grades Count!

The School District of Philadelphia has implemented a standards-driven curriculum with aligned

assessments in all content areas. Grading students requires a defined marking system to

provide uniformity across the district. These guidelines rely upon evidence of daily formal and

informal observations by classroom teachers.

Please allow me to introduce The Waring Wonders as they preform their debut video to the Tik Tok hit sensation, Hit Yo Rollie. This presentation is the opening act for Monday, September 21, 2020 Community Meetings at 8:30 a.m. We know you'll laugh and that is okay. To quote Lee Grant, "Shared laughter creates a bond of friendships. When people laugh together, they cease to be young and old, teacher and pupils, worker and boss. They become a single group of human beings."
