Important Moccasin Making Update
The location has now been confirmed for Longfellow Middle School's library. The entrance will be through the main doors (leading to the office) on the west side of the building.
We are purchasing the materials from Tandy's leather in Oklahoma City.
OCIE Challenge Bowl
If you have a student in grades 6-12 that is interested in participating please send an e-mail to one of our middle school or high school tutors. They will be holding study sessions to prepare for the challenge bowl. The challenge bowl will be on November 8, 2019 at the College of Muscogee Nation in Okmulgee, OK. Lunch and transportation will be provided. A maximum of 5 members can be on a team.

Native Youth Science Club Trip
This month for Native Youth Science Club we will visit Lake Thunderbird on October 26 from 10AM - 12. We will tour the Discovery Cove Nature Center and the ClearBay Trail system to investigate and study the biodiversity of the area. Two OU scientists will be joining us to assist with identification of species!
Transportation will be provided. You can follow us to Lake Thunderbird, or meet us there. We will be loading the bus at the Norman High School science parking lot and leaving by 9:30 AM.
Please fill out the form to sign up for this month's meeting and indicate how your student will be transported to the Lake. We need to get a head count for the bus!
This is going to be a really fun meeting. I can't wait to see you all there!

OU American Indian STEM and Business Day for High School Juniors and Seniors
Attendees will meet professors from many engineering and business disciplines, as well as college advisors and current OU students. There will be food, t-shirts, door prizes, and hands-on activities.
Dates and times for the event are listed in the flyer below. If your high school student is interested in going please have them contact our high school Indian Ed. tutors Zac Grimes or Denessa Littleaxe.
OKC Metro Indian Education Handgame Tournament
We will be hosting The OKC Metro Handball game on December 12th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The tentative location will be at the Norman North High School multipurpose room. If you would like to participate, please come join us for a fun evening of handball. Anyone from kindergarten to 12th grade can take part. Updates to come soon.
Choctaw STAR
Choctaw STAR rewards arrived for spring semester. If your student has earned an A, B, or perfect attendance, they should have received their reward(s) from their Indian Education tutor. Choctaw STAR Rewards are for Choctaw citizens in grades 2-12. Contact Tvlwv Moffer if you have any questions or concerns or if you would like to sign up for the Choctaw STAR program at: tmoffer@norman.k12.ok.us.
New Indian Education Students

Concurrent Enrollment PSA - Tribal Scholarships
Just a reminder, most tribal scholarships will pay for concurrent enrollment fees. Even when tuition is waived by the institution, tribal scholarships can be applied to fees, books, or other miscellaneous expenses. So make sure if your student is planning to take concurrent enrollment classes this year, contact your tribe for scholarship information.
Stickball Teams
The Chickasaw Nation provides:
- Team specific jerseys
- A limited number of sticks to be borrowed for practice and games
- A limited number of transportation to games
- Practice sites available for Ada & Norman area players
