Weekly Update

From the Desk of the Principal

December 22, 2020

Dear Masconomet Middle School families,

I observed a virtual combined 8th grade social studies class yesterday in which the lesson focused on online research and evaluation, and I noticed a similar level of enthusiasm and participation from the students that I would normally see in the classroom. Students engaged in the lesson, shared their thoughts, and interacted well with each other. I was pleased to see this!

I hope that this first part of the school year has progressed relatively smoothly for you and your students. I appreciate your patience and resilience as we cycled from the fully remote schedule to the hybrid schedule to the re-addition of the WIN block. Thank you for your support during what continues to be a challenging school year, but one that is nonetheless full of small “wins”.

Please take note of a few calendar updates.

Upcoming Calendar Dates:

  • December 23- January 3- Holiday Break
  • January 4- School re-opens- COHORT B Day in the building
  • It is a “B” week, so scheduled “B,D,F” classes meet (e.g., phys. ed. or performing arts)

Holiday Greeting Cards

Thank you to all of the students who created non-denominational holiday greeting cards to distribute to the Tri-town Councils on Aging and the Masconomet Health Care Center. I also offer our thanks to parent and School Advisory Council member Jennifer Beers, who dropped off the cards at each of the four locations. This was great way to recognize the elderly in our community who appreciate a greeting card to let them know that the students at Masco Middle are thinking of them. It ties directly into one of our school themes of citizenship, and we plan to do another similar activity later this winter!

SEL and Vacation Week

School Adjustment Counselors Alexis Kostas and Adam Thurlow offer some tips and suggestions for families to relax, recharge, and reconnect over the break. Please see the attachment for ideas!

School Office

The Middle School Main Office will be closed for the break and will reopen on January 4.

I wish you and your families a safe, restful, and happy holiday break and New Year.

Best regards,

Phil McManus
