What We're Learning
Literacy
- reading words by looking at the picture (eagle eye strategy)
- reading words by looking at the first letter sound (lips the fish strategy)
- reading and recognizing sight words right away
- re-reading sentences to practice smooth reading
Please remind your child to bring their "Book Bag" back to school each day. We will be using these books during our guided reading groups. Thank you!
Please be sure your child reads their sight word book to you during the week. Students will earn a Timbertail Token for returning the book with 3 signatures! This book will become part of their read to self book box.

Writing
In Writer's Workshop, we improved our writing by focusing on using our strategies to fix the spelling of words we know. We then celebrated our accomplishments by sharing our favorite part of the story with the class. The students enjoyed a 'smarties' candy treat to celebrate our hard work as "Super Writers!"

Congratulations to Mrs. Sharkey on the birth of her baby boy, Walden! I did share a picture of her new baby with the class on Monday.
Please be sure to send a winter coat, gloves or mittens and a hat with your child to school everyday!
Schedules and Class Calendar
The calendar has students listed who may bring one item for show and tell on Fridays. I will rotate through 4 students every Friday that we have a full day of school. Please make sure you are comfortable sending the item to school. Please label the item with the student's name. Thank you!
The calendar also has a student listed on Monday as the, "Star of the Week." I will send home the forms that need to be completed and brought back to school on the Monday that the student is assigned, "Star of the Week."
On December 21st we will be having a Kindergarten Christmas dress-up day. Students are encouraged to dress in green, red or any other type of Christmas apparel. We will be having a Kindergarten Sing Along at 1:30.
On December 22nd, we will be having a pajama & movie day for our school incentive. Students can wear pajamas to school!
Holiday Break is from December 23 - January 1. I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your families. School resumes on January 4th.
Our class will be taking a field trip to Barkhausen on January 19th. The field trip forms were sent home on Wednesday. Please be sure to complete the forms and return both the permission slip and money to school by December 21st! We will be eating cold lunches upon our return, so please remember to pack a cold lunch for you child on Tuesday, January 19th. Thank You!!
Birthdays
If your child has a summer birthday, please contact me to let me know when you would like to celebrate and I will check to see if that day works for us!
Snack
Please send crackers/pretzels that we may use as a classroom snack in the morning. Thank you!
