News from Sanborn School
January 15, 2021
A note from Mrs. Johansen
Beginning Wednesday, 1/20/21, In-Person learners will be allowed to concurrently learn by streaming into the classroom only if they need to quarantine for illness or exposure to COVID-19 as indicated by the Sanborn Office.
When students flip flop between concurrent and in-person learning for reasons not related to COVID-19, it causes significant disruption within the classroom as well as at the main office where daily accountability for student attendance is a state requirement.
For this reason, students who have requested in-person learning who choose to stay home for alternative reasons will not have access to concurrent instruction starting January 20th.
Should your child be absent from in-person learning for a reason other than COVID-19 quarantine or exposure, as was the expectation prior to the pandemic, please contact your main office’s attendance line to report the absence.
Thank you for understanding!
Have a nice weekend,
Erika Johansen
Retake Day on Friday, January 22nd
We will have a Picture Retake day on January 22. On this Picture Retake Day, families can have their child photographed for the first time or as a retake. The pictures will be taken in the Sanborn Music Room.
We've created a schedule for in-person students who need pictures taken. This will be handled by school staff. Please communicate with your child's teacher if you would like your child's picture taken or retaken.
Virtual Students are scheduled for 11:30-1:00 that day. You may enter the school at Door 22. We will have a staff member there to welcome students to school that day. Door 22 is in the front of the school near the front circle driveway. Please make sure your child wears a mask. Parents/guardians will be asked to remain outside. It should move pretty quickly.
If you purchased pictures and want to retake them, please return the package to school that was sent home earlier this year.
If students did not purchase pictures, you may still do so. Online Prepay ordering information is available at this link: https://inter-state.com/FlyerEntry Online Order Code: 52846B
Call the front office with any questions. Thank you for your patience as we've navigated many changes throughout this process this year.
Valentine's Day Plans 2021
Our district will have a Wear Pink/Red Spirit Day on Friday, February 12th. We will not be having class parties or passing out valentines. No cards will be passed out from home or treats will be shared. Again, the reason is to be equitable to all those students who are virtual and for health reasons related to COVID-19.
Classroom teachers are finding fun activities to do with their students that day in lieu of our traditional Valentine's Day events.
A word from Mrs. Gilbert, Sanborn School Nurse
Dear Sanborn Parents,
This a reminder that if your virtual student is in new to the school district, Kindergarten or in 6th grade they are required to have a current school year immunization record and a physical exam.
If you have not submitted these records, please do so by the May 31, 2021. These health requirements are per Illinois State Law. Please be aware any missing health records will delay your child’s entrance into the next grade level in the 21-22 school year when we return to in-person learning.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Sanborn Health Office at the information listed below.
Sincerely,
Sharon Gilbert, RN, BSN

Cold Weather/Recess Guidelines
I wanted to take a moment and remind everyone of the District 15 Cold Weather Recess Guidelines. This information was taken directly from our District 15 website: https://www.ccsd15.net/Page/67
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide outdoor supervision at all times.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
- Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
Please reach out to our front office if your family needs assistance with winter clothing for your Sanborn student(s).
